I have a quick question to those of you running 6 tests a day....

What water sample size are you using, and are you compensating with salt water 'dosing'?

I am only testing 3 times a day at the moment, was considering increasing this, and I have the ability to dose saltwater to compensate for the 'loss', just intrigued as to other people's usage!

I am doing 6 test and 12 test, on my one tank it 50ml per test which is approx 300ml per day and the other tank is 100ml per test or 1200ml a day.

I currently have AWC, and it seems to keep the tank where it belongs, the salinity in the awc station is slightly higher then my tank.

Doing this seems to keep everything in check for me.

Yes. They are both equally accurate; the higher number is I have a inline-filter on the 100ml sample. I could lower it just have not.

I have added the inline filter within the last week, and so far I am seeing more consistent results.
I have been seeing a pattern prior to this, so waiting to if it continues.

eg. I'll be stable at ~8.7-8.9 for 3-5 days (testing 3x a day), and then it'll creep to 9.6 for a day or so, followed by a drop to 8.4, then repeat. Generally a manual test with Red Sea corroborates what I am seeing in KH Director, except the peak - flushing the cell repeatedly tends to clear it.

So I am assuming (which I hate to do) that I am actually pulling in some solid matter (maybe coraline?) and getting artificially high readings, the system is then compensating and reducing my dosing, leading to the drop to 8.4.

Unfortunately, unless you know otherwise, I don't see any way to remove spurious readings from the charts (eg. I knocked my sample line out the other day when cleaning my skimmer, and got a 1.4 reading which destroys the granularity on the graph!)

Nominal 7.5. Adaptive control. Inl set pump 1 which is 2 part alk. 50% 100% 100%. Saved it. My pump one is set to 24 doses of 1ml only. Not much take as of yet. Still figuring it out.

I dose equal parts ca with my alk. How do I make it my kh director equally change my ca dose to equal my alk dose of it reduces or increases it

You add it as a second pump

Here I have Pump 3 which is my alk and Pump 4 which is my Ca.

Ok, I’m at my whits end with this machine. I have it on auto and set to dose 1.5ml 24 times a day. I have been by this machine for 8 hours the last six days in a row and it’s not dosing anything. What am I doing wrong?

Are you using the KHD to measure and control KH, or only to measure? And what do you mean by having it on auto, just that is under the automatically tab?

I'm using the KHD to measure and control KH and the dosing pump that doses carbonate is set to "DAY-INTERVALS" and then repeat every 1 day. Try that instead of the SPECIAL WEEKDAYS...

Special weekdays is only if you dose differently on different days.

So it should be like this correct?

Looks ok to me.

Is the doser dosing now?
I have no special weekdays clicked now. Thanks for the help. The weird thing is I have sit next to this thing for hours daily and never seen the light come on and actually dose. So I turned off the “switch off level monitoring” and set the size at 10,000 ml to see if it was saying it was running and it’s now down 36 ml. Maybe I’m just missing it some how.

This only show that the software is functional - not that the pump really pump. Just let the outlet of the pump go into an empty bottle and check if there is any liquid in the bottle after half a day

Sincerely Lasse

Here's how I set it up and why...

1. I set doser for the nominal dKH dose a reef tank uses per day, which is .5dKH. For my tank, I dose 6 times a day and require 24ml of my chosen supplement. So 4ml per dose. This ensures that if my tank is at target 8dKH, it still will dose this minimum amout that will be used up b4 next dose.
2. I set the 1dKH deviation volume to the actual ml needed to raise my dKH by 1. The KHD is set to measure 30 minutes b4 dosing. This ensures that after every measurement, my dKH is replenished to at least 8 plus my minimal dose.
3. I limit the max/min dose adjustment to .25dKH because I never want a larger change then that. It protects my tank from anomalous readings as well.

With these setting, I'm typically between 7.9 and 8.1 dKH. Sometimes a little higher and sometimes a little lower. The dKH consumption of my tank varries throughout the day. The more measurements / doses you do the tighter you can lock in the target dKH.
