GHL Maxi for Auto Water Changes?

I want to do auto water changes but not sure if the Maxi is the right option.. I want to simultaneously drain tank water and add new water so the water level in my tank/sump never changes and i want to be able to do it over 8+ hours. I'll be running a line to a drain and putting newly made water next to the tank each time so I want to be able to start this routine manually without having to recode the program every time I do it (not run it on a specific schedule).
Is this possible with the Maxi? How would I trigger this routine (if its possible)? And would this require having the PC application to code/trigger or could i do it from the iPhone app?

The stand-alone Maxi should fit the bill for you. @Ditto and @Vinny@GHLUSA are more familiar with the settings, but I believe you could trigger it from the app, browser, or device itself. GHL dosers are a little different, so you can set the speed and amount to change and not necessarily over 8+ hours.

Ok cool. I just wanted to be able to set it to change overnight but definitely don’t want to reprogram it every time I do a water change.. that defeats the purpose of the Awc lol

Stand some will work without any issues and you can set it to go off at night without any issues :)

I’d like to see an updated Video for AWC using the Maxi on a timed water change.

Using the sensors causes so much system conflict. For instance, I use a Tunze ATO. That needs to have it’s socket shut off. Then the return pump needs to shut off. The sump needs to fill up. (Not always the same hieght because it’s dependent on where my return pipe is set.) Then I need timers to keep the ATO and skimmer off till the system returns to a stable running mode after the AWC.

This is an area GHL needs to improve.

Yeah exactly my thinking and why I want to do a simultaneous water change. better for the tank inhabitants and slow change on water chemistry.
I mean i dont see why you couldnt have pump A take 150mL/min out for x time and then pump B bring 150mL in for x time.. seems like a simple program. I just dont know how easy it would be to trigger manually and if the pumps would be within a close enough calibration to keep the water level consistent.

Probably set up under a maintenance tab. Click tab and it does the job. @Ditto probably has a better schematic of it

Personally when I want to do a water change I just set the two maxi dosing channels to dose 50000ml when pressed and away they go.

You can assign the dosers to switched channels and then press a maintenance button to run them for a set period, you would just need to work out your set-up’s flow rate (it varies dependent on pipe length/height) and the run maintenance mode for the right period of time.

Doesn’t the above only drain down to the lower level sensor and then refill to the upper sensor? (assuming the op has 2 level sensors)

It wouldn’t run all night like the OP wanted unless they had a very large sump to allow a suitable volume of water to be taken?

I have a maxi i plan on using for awc , was hoping for a Volume fill. Say drain a gallon then fill a gallon @ 4X daily and using a solenoid for top off...... T/O OFF when WC in cycle...Ditto is this possible with Sand-alone Maxi

i remove and replenish at the same time. the same amount split into 8 segments throughout the night. i never have my ato turn on this way. my only gripe is not being able to use the container full/empty feature as it only does about 30000ml which is less than half of one of my saltwater holding containers.

Wasn’t the maxi designed/introduced mainly for water changes? Buddy of mine runs one for that purpose and it works very well. I personally use a DoS, but mostly the same thing (essentially the same dosing heads).

I run into the same problem when I use one of the inbuild doser pumps (in my case dosing pump 16) in order to manage a water pump that I want to give around 600 l/day. The solution was that I calibrate the pump - the real result was 660 ml/minute. However I put in 6.6 ml/minute in the pump setting window. In the "settings for automatic dosing time" - I want a dose every 10 minutes. I therefore use 144 as "dosing per day". I want every dose to be 4000 ml (4 L) but because that I use a hundredfold lower rate in the pump setting rate - I put 40 ml as the rate of dosing.

In the window "average daily dosing amount" I can read 5760 ml. Because of my different setting - the real value will be 576 000 ml/day -> 570 l/day

This means also that every time I fill up the container - I do not ad 30 000 ml (30 l) - I ad 3000 000 ml -> 3000 l or 3 metric cubic. When I read (below the filling staple) that there is 29960 ml left - I know that the used figure should be 100 time higher - in this case - I have ad 4000 ml.

In my case - I use a water pump connected to my switch (outlet) S3. This is the configure widow for this.

In your case - using a maxi - calibrate the pump at the speed you want - and use the scale you want

It would be nice to have that feature so you can make sure that a heater or power head in your saltwater container doesn’t run dry. I think I might just get one of the auto aqua level sensors to turn off the heater/Wavemaker at a certain level to prevent this... (or do I get a Profilux? Lol)

so the way you do it, is it automatic or how do you trigger it? I know the maxi has a few buttons on the front so it’d be awesome if I could just hit those buttons before bed and it goes to work

it is on a schedule. i use 2 20 gallon brute can's one for mixing one for storage. when one goes empty they water is moved to the "holding tank" i do roughly 2 gallons a day on a 120gal system. i do not heat or circulate the water in the holding tank. i havnt played with the manual dose buttons on the front of my unit. mine only run the head when pressed. so many ways to skin this cat. i chose the best/easiest way for me at the time to get it going, while still learning the ghl platform.
