i did wake up in the middle of the night one time on my back, iwas wide awake but couldnt move i was trying to scream but nothing came out. i read a few months later that this can happen sometimes. from what i understood from it, your brains kind of disconnects itself from the rest of your body while your dreaming this way you dont act out your dream and possibly injure yourself, and sometimes if you wake during this period your body fails to reconnect. all i know is it was the scariest feeling i think i ever had.

This event has interested me before, but never happened to me. A lot of people mis-claim this as being abducted by aliens when this happens to them. I could not imagine the feeling of non-feeling and only awareness. I'm sure I would be freaked out though.

I have definitely experienced this. It almost feels like something is holding you down. Very scary feeling.

Yep this site is supposed to be kid friendly but if they ready this stuff you know there are some parents that are not liking us right now. Especially when there 12 year old wakes up the entire house screaming and wets the bed. :jaw:

I used to experience this regularly. Try as I might, I couldn't move. I did notice that I could control my breathing. One night I decided to wake up the gf with my heavy breathing, I succeeded. She said that all my muscles were tensed, like if I was flexing every muscle all at once (seizure?).

One night I was having the same dream, but I awoke facing upwards. It looked like the Grim Reaper was slowly approaching me. I tried my heavy breathing trick, but it wasn't working. As the reaper was right in front of me, I noticed that the reapers face turned into my moms. She said not to worry and she was just wanting to see me. I called her in the morning to tell her. She said she had a dream the previous night that she flew to tuck me in. Crazy! I haven't had a single dream (that I can remember) since. This was about 5 years ago.

When I was about 10, I had an experience I still can't explain.
I was watching a movie with two of my older brothers in the ones room and it was early evening, around 8 PM during the summer. One brother was on a reclining chair, I was laying in the middle of the bed, and my other brother was laying next to me by the wall. I fell asleep on top of the bed, and covers, and awoke in the same spot. I got up and decided to walk across the hall to my room and go back to sleep. When I got to the doorway, the brother I fell asleep next to passed by and shouted "Where were you??? Mom called the police and there's 5 squad cars, ambulances and a firetruck in the driveway." I thought he was joking and kept walking towards my bed. He grabbed my shoulder and told me to go outside and see mom before I went back to sleep. I said fine and went down to call his bluff. Sure enough, our driveway is packed with a fleet of search and rescue people! We lived near the woods and there were flashlights shining all througout them. My mom saw me walk out the door and nearly bursted out in tears thanking God I was safe. I asked what all this was about and she said that my brothers had left to get something and a couple hours later they came back and she asked if I went with them. They said they hadn't seen me since the movie, so they searched the house and yelled out trying to find me. When they couldn't find me it was after midnight so she called the police. The police chief went room to room, searched everywhere, pulled all the covers off the beds and was confident I was not in the house so they began searching the woods and nearby creek. When he saw me he came over to my mom and me and asked where I had been. I said I fell asleep on my brothers bed, and woke up in the same spot. He shook his head and said, "son, you were NOT in that room, I searched EVERY square inch of that room MYSELF". He almost seemed a bit angry like I had been sneaking around hiding from him as he searched.

I still have no idea where I was, and nothing like it has happened since...that I know of.

I also had a expereince where i was on my back couldnt move or scream and a whiteish image of what ill call a demon holding me down and laughing as I struggled to fight it off. I dont talk much about it, but seeing that someone else has had the same experience as me helps!

This used to happen to me all the time. You are right it is the scariest feeling I have ever experienced. It hasn't happened to me in a while and I hope it never does again. That is the first time I have seen an explanation of what it may be.

Awesome thread! I have always had a interest in the paranormal and it's cool to hear everyones amazing stories. I really only have one that actually happened to me recently. My dad died suddenly in 2004 from a brain hemorrhage and needless to say it was a very hard time for our family. Well a few months ago a friend told me about a iphone app called Ghost Radar. He said he had some weird experiences using it as his mom died somewhat recently. So I downloaded it and ran it sitting on my coutch. You ask the ap questions and you get answers in real time. I said, "I would like to talk to my father Jim (last name)." For the most part it wasn't saying anything that made any sense. Then I asked again and it replied "jimmy". My heart kinda sunk cuz everyone that was close to my dad called him Jimmy. It kinda freaked me out so I turned it off. Well a week later I came home from work and my wife said she was in my daugthers room during the day folding some laundry and a huge gush of air shot by her, strong enough to make her hair blow. No window was open in the house, no fan, all doors were closed, and we dont have AC. She said it really freaked her out but she didn't feel it was malevolent. About two week later me and my wife were laying in bed watching tv and my wifes like, "Did you hear that?" I said no. Then it happened again and she was like, "Serious did you hear that??" She said it sounded like someone was walking in our attic. I didn't hear it so I told her it's prolly just rats or a cat or something walking on the roof. She said no it does not sound like that. Then it happened again and we muted the tv so we could hear it. It really scared the living **** out of me. There was the sound of footsteps walking in our attic, clear as day. The time between steps was no doubt human like and with every step you could hear our attic above us creak. We both were really freaked out. My wife actually thought there was a human in our attic. I said theres no way! The only entrance to our attic is through our bedroom closet and it's a really tight fit. If someone were to actually break into our house and get up there they would have destroyed our crammed with crap closet. Just to make sure I went up there to make sure and there was nothing. Let me tell you it was scary lifting up the piece of wood into my attic. I had the feeling there was someone standing waiting for me with a led pipe. Needless to say there was nothing up there. No animals or droppings either. I was actually excited cuz I always wanted to have a paranormal experience. It was scary but great! lol

Yea I really hate sleep paralysis. It happens to me on occasion, usually if I sleep in a bad position. For me the easir way I found to get out of it is to try to relax and fall back to a lower stage of sleep, then wake up, it's like it allows your body a second attempt at connecting

OMG! That used to happen to me when I was a teenager. It scared me half to death every time. No one would believe me. I would lay there and tell myself I had to wake up, but I couldn't. I thought that if I just tried to go back to sleep that I would die. Horrible!! I've never heard anyone talk about it, ever. Thanks for confirming I wasn't the only one that happened to!

Well, I was just woken up by picture frames falling. Weird thing is that the acrylic is broken, I replace the glass with plexi so that if the frames fall glass shards don't go everywhere. Only the acrylic covering the pictures of my lab and myself seem to have broken though. I've seen way to many "Paranormal Activity" movies to not be freaked out. I tried to go back to bed, then something hit the tank. Initially I thought I left something on top of it, but when I got up to investigate, the only thing out of place was a child safety cover for an outlet. It traveled across the room (I could see where the covert initially was because it wasn't in the outlet anymore). My table wasn't levitating, but strange nonetheless.

My aunt had a house outside of Portland Oregon that was haunted. I remember as a little kid going there. You could also ways when tell the ghost was in the same room with you because you would catch wiffs of lavendar in the air and a cold breeze would go by. I remember as a little kid staying there and not believing it. So my aunt proved it to me one night. She lined up all her perfume bottles in a row on her dresser and said come back in the am and look. So in the morning every perfume bottle was moved to a different spot in the room. Also at the base of the stairs there was a dark stain in the wood. If you tried to cover it up with a carpet in a few days the carpet would develop a dark stain also. It was pretty creepy. My aunt eventually moved out of the house after being there for about 5 years.

Thanks for sharing again guys. Here's one of my happy ghost/paranormal experiences.

One night I had worked late and was dead tired so my daughter and wife were already sleeping when I got home. I took a bath then went straight to bed. About 3am i felt some one gently pushing and pulling on body. Then i see it's an older woman trying to get me to wake up and check on my daughter (3 yrs old at the time). I don't know if i was dreaming or whatever but i got up and she wasn't there. The bedrooms are on the second floor of our house. So I open my door and as soon as i do that i see my daughter standing at the top of the stairs! I literally dove and grabbed her arm. Apparently the 1 night my wife forgot to put up the babygate in her room this happens. I almost had a heart attack and my wife has never forgotten to put up the gate since then. After I described the woman I saw to my wife she had a blank look on her face. She said I described her Grandmother! She showed me a picture that ive never seen before and there she was! I like to call her my kid's Guardian GGG. (great great grandma). Till this day she is constantly watching over our kids and my wife.

bump this for more weekend stories! :jaw:

I have a couple from when I was a kid in the house I grew up in.
I went into the basement one time by myself to get something, as I got close to the bottom of the steps I noticed across the room a shadow of a person on the wall as I took another step it disappeared. I ran up the stairs completely freaked out.
Another time my brother literally seen a box on his dresser float in the air and then drop to the floor, naturally he was freaked out and streamed bloody murder.
My stepmother used to wake up all the time from felling someone pulling on her legs at the bottom of the bed.
Needless to say this house was really creepy!
