I would say give it about a week before a FW dip :) it may just need time to acclimate. What PAR is it under?
It's under about 300-350 par. I run a single 400w Radium 20k with 4-t5's. The tank is only 16" tall.

Was it this crinkly around the edges at the store? If so, fresh dip within a few days. Nice clam though, hope it starts to improve.
The pic was taken right after I put the clam in my tank, so yes, the edges were definitely crinkly at the lfs. I will definitely give it a week or so before I do a FW dip on it. Thanks.

Hey guys, just picked up a 7" gigas from my lfs. I took a gamble on it as I don't think it's fully expanding. Please let me know what you think of it. The mantle doesn't extend much beyond its shell.
From the shadow it looks tilted. I would aim to get it more upright so that it doesn't expend energy trying to open against gravity. I'd also give it at least two weeks before dipping in FW.

That clam just looks stressed. It does not look like it has PMD, so don't FWD it.
There is no shell growth in the picture that I can see. Hope this change with it in your tank. Give it time.

Does anyone have a gigas on the bottom of a bare bottom tank? Currently, I have it in a shallow glass dish filled with Ca reactor media, but I would like to put him on the bottom of my bare bottom tank.

Make a box out of egg crate. Use zip ties to assemble it. What I use for my clams in my bb system.

Hi guys. I recently got a small Gigas clam. Around 2 inch. Would this require higher light compared to other Gigas?

I currently have a 3 inch Deresa and 2 8inch Gigas on sandbed. Photon V2 LED and 4 T5s.

The new small Gigas i also placed on sandbed. But if needed I can bring it up halfway in the rocks.

Will snap photo when lights come on

Monkie, my 7” gigas looks just like yours. I can’t figure out why sone have good mantle extension and sone barely extend out beyond the shell. Any ideas? Btw, how did you score a small gigas? I thought the ones coming out now were larger ones?

Im no clam expert. I cant say sorry. All i can do is provide a stable environment. Slightly higher nutrient and calcium. Using reef crystal.

I got the small guy on biota website

Im setting up a spot light with XR15 to give the little guy more lights

Mine grew up under a Kessil ® A360WE Tuna Blue in a 22 inch deep tank at full brightness.

Has anyone used the Biota Easy Booster to feed clams?

I going to dose some live food. Havent tried these. But Biota has pretty good record of growing things. Or should I stick to algaebarns live phyto?

Been 3 weeks for the little guy. Can start to see a little shell growth.

Started dosing some phyto daily for it

Hows yours doing now? 1 of my bigger one just doesnt extend as much as the other. But other than that, both seems fine

He's doing good. The mantle still doesn't extend out much though. I still don't understand why that is.
