Glenn - I found this thread a few days ago and took the time to read all the pages starting from 1. It took me a couple of day but I sure did not want to miss any of the pictures, videos and/or expert information that were being imparted to mere mortals like myself. The tanks are awesome and I could not get enough. Now that the DSR is in the US, I am definitely going to incorporate it into my reefing techniques.
Your tanks are just simply beautiful. Thank you for sharing the reefs you have built.

Beautiful tank! Any update on the tukas?
They were skinny and are quite picky with eating. In the 5 weeks after introductio the total was reduced from 9 to 5pcs. Atm i am not sure if i count 4 or 5 pcs. but it seems stable now. Feeding frequency and Finding the right food is the key to keep them alive.

In the meantime i introduced 7 squamipinnis and 8 evansi. They are both doing great.

I hope you enjoy it as much as i enjoy posting.
What i share is just the joy of the moment. The knowledge i share is just the proven part. The parts which are experimental are in the pipeline to prove themselves to me first.

This is one of the many promising experimental concepts I am busy with atm.

All expendable frags from own culture
Curious how these will look in a few months?

ENG:
Exciting!
With the frag700reef I finally have the confidence in fullLED to get the last 8x T5 tubes out.
Replaced 8x54 watt T5 for 4x54 watt LED strips
There were already 7x54watt LED strips in it, now the total is 11x54watt.

The total power consumption goes from 950 watts to 750 watts

I am not completely satisfied yet, but that will be because the corals still has to adjust to the new lighting. In the near future I will be playing with different color combinations to get the most out of this reef.

I agree it looks blueish. What brand are the leds? Are they 4 feet long bulbs? Im excited to see if you get the same or better results! Whats the par difference between t5 and leds?

For the eye it's less blue. The camera pickup a lot of blue light.
This fixture is my own design and build. I used aluminium square profiles and mainly epileds.

Wow lots of leds! Are they 1 watt leds or 3 watt? How much does that cost?

What do you put your fresh water in for evaporation?

Yes , build from scratch.
11x 52= 572 led mounted on aluminium square profiles.
Those are 3 watt used as 1 watt @350mA
They cost about 10-15ct per led.

Of course building these it's a lot cheaper in materials only.
But on the other hand you need the knowledge and a lot of time to design and construct the whole thing. Often with trail and error. I have an electronics background, so for me this is doable. Not everbody have the knowledge, patience and precision required to construct a complete light fixture. When you don't work secure, or do the wrong calculations there may be a fire or electric shock hazard.

So before you start messing around with electricity you better have basic electric knowledge.

For me designing and developing things is a nice challenge and the main reason i love this hobby so much. It keeps me busy.....

Do you need to worry about high ph of those? With diy cement rocks they need to be soaked for months in fresh water and changed daily to bring the ph down.
