So I have this otherwise very healthy Goni; grows new polyps, extends pretty well, encrusts, etc.

But it does this weird thing every couple of days where it puffs up a bit on this side pictured. You can see the top of the Goni swollen and its tentacles within it a bit tuckered in.

What’s stranger is that this Goni also produces this bacterial film/stringy thing every other morning (maybe related to this) that irritates the polyps until it gets blown away.

I am thinking these may be related, but anyone have a clue what this might be about?

I was thinking there might be an infection so I tried a dip with an antibacterial mix, but didn’t really change anything.

I did see similar photos to yours, all about the same size colony strangely, but that also doesn’t explain the bacterial film thingy that these always have in the morning. I’ll maybe update the post with a picture of it

It’s doing the thing again and created that bacterial film thing I mentioned.

Anyone know what that might be?

Photo with lights out to show how only one part of it is swollen, with the weird bacterial film

I have 25 Goni in one tank and 2 in another tank

Of them all, only one did this and it was a larger 2-2.5” colony. I eventually lost it for unknown reasons. I never figured it out.

Other people told me it’s normal, but not of my other Goni don’t do it.

You could try a antibiotic dip.

I did try an antibiotic dip with Coral Infection Elimination, I think it helped for maybe a couple days but it’s doing it again.

Maybe I’ll try a more regular cadence.

Sorry you lost the colony, hopefully mine survives long term

Just once?

Might be a bacteria in the tank. Can combine tank treatment + individual dip

Process for both methods is to repeat daily for a few days

I will try to do the individual dip over a few days again.

I am wary of doing the tank wide regimen as I run UV anyways as well as carbon dosing not sure about the whole wide antibacterial dose.

Huh, you might be correct, for some reason I was under the impression it was an antibiotic, like a concoction of cipro and others.

What dip do you suggest? Cipro?

It’s an antibiotic alternative.

It’s amino acids and mRNA and some supplements. It seems to help boost corals immune systems so they fight off issues on their own. By dosing the tank, you are giving all the corals a boost, ant the idea is that after multiple days of this, the bacteria die off from not having a host.

That’s my understanding at least. And personally I’ve dosed my tank a dozen times with it. It’s never caused any harm and my 75g tank is packed

I would start with CIE for a few days and if no improvement then cipro can be used as a next step.

When I used cipro to fight bjd outbreak I dosed it three times a day for 6 days. This is more than triple the suggested amount, but it’s what was needed for me. I only mention to let you know, it’s very hard to overdose cipro. I had zero negative impact or effects

So this

Is what came out of the Goni during these episodes, upon further inspections, some of the black dots are moving around in the filaments, could be innocent pods, or some kind of pest? Not sure.

Administering the coral infection elimination with coralrx for now

I have saved many coral with CIE and not needed to escalate to cipro. I’ve had cipro work when CIE failed. I’ve had CIE work worn cipro failed.

they work in different ways, and sometimes you just have to experiment. I use CIE as a go to, and it’s usually my first step.

I’ve even combined them for dips and put CIE and cipro in the dip together.

can’t tell but better safe than sorry. If it’s pods, you’ll get more naturally. If it’s pests, good to eliminate them lol

Gotcha. I’ll try the cie again for three four days.

It hasn’t spread to anything or even within the same Goni, and it’s been in the tank for two months now.

Thanks again for your input
