Here's one for you Hanna checker people. I have the salinity checker and the alk checker...love them. I just received the calcium checker today. I had NO IDEA it was so involved. There is so much junk in that box! Anybody else use the calcium one? I'm already tempted to go back to my Salifert test kit and say to heck with this thing! Am I crazy? Does it look worse than it really is? I haven't really tried it yet. I'm still overwhelmed by all the junk in the box! I thought the Hanna checkers were supposed to make testing easier...o_O

Funny, when I started my tank, I was using API to test because that’s what the local store had. Bought all the Hanna checkers and was testing religiously every week. Now that the tank is established, I haven’t tested my water in months. Haven’t even checked salinity in a few months. I have a little mark on the side glass that I top off to every morning.

Thanks, I'll give it a whirl and compare it to the Salifert results. I've had trouble keeping my calcium stable and I think I found the problem yesterday. I was using a dosing container with my Kamoer doser, but the tubing wasn't the exact size and I had to add some connector thingies. I don't think it was ever really sealing properly and my dosing was probably erratic. I got a new dosing container and with some Teflon tape, was able to get it properly sealed. I did some test runs with manually dosing into a small measuring container and finally was able to dose an amount spot on. Ugh. I got the Hanna checker so I could check calcium and alk daily this week to make sure I didn't totally mess one of them up! Maybe I'll be a pro at the Hanna checker by the end of the week....

I have checked the API calcium test against the Red Sea and NYOS. Same results every time.

What a sweetie! Gosh, I so feel your pain right now. I guess it's all too fresh still. Heck, I'm sitting here tearing up as I look at the picture of little Snuffy. It's such a hard decision. Like you mentioned, it was time the day Maya stopped eating and drinking altogether. Such a tough thing. I hope and pray you have clarity when the time comes. We were so worried we wouldn't, but we did. Hugs for you and Snuffy. My dad had a dachshund named Snuffy years ago. He loved that dog so much! I know you love your little Snuffy.

Yes, it is a hard decision to make and our vet will definitely tell us too when it is time. Although I know we will know in our hearts to when it is time.
He got his name from a cartoon my daughter use to watch. She was 4 when we got him. And she named him.

I’ve heard that one is more involved. I have other Hanna checkers but not that one.

Nothing like Club Insomnia...oh well. I can always work....or spy on the tanks with my red flashlight! Probably about a year ago, I added two peppermint shrimp. I had an occasional sighting, but hadn't seen them much at all. Guess what I found during my insomnia-driven red flashlight tank spying?! A peppermint shrimp! It's the little things. ;Joyful I hope you all have a great Tuesday. :)

Good morning. After Randy said you use calcium in equal parts to Alk about 10 times I stopped thinking about it and just add the same amount as my alk. I have been for a year. When I did test it after several months it was fine.

I am culturing Rudy's green butt goo.

it's not that difficult to use. and if you have issues (me) reading color charts (me) it's a better option.
