API isn't the correct test kit for Cuppramine. It reads too high for ionic copper. You need the seachem kit. Please be careful in your dosing.... the live rock will be absorbing the copper and releasing back into the water randomly causing your levels to fluctuate. I also dont want you do over dose your tank not having the right kit to measure with. Please be careful!

yeah I know. Thats why I said I'm not dosing anything until my Seachem kit arrives tomorrow. API sucks but my two LFS only carry the API kits.

Oh what I meant is that it's readings are for 1ppm 2 pmm 3ppm as opposed to the Seachem kit that will read .3 .4 .5 like that.

the API kit reads .25 .50 .75 etc.. For whatever reason is keeps tell my I am at 0. I got dead brittle stars and hundreds of dead feather dusters so I know for fact my level is not actually 0. Will update tomorrow once I get the get the SeaChem test kit. Good news is my sailfin and hippo look better

API copper test kit chart below. The reason you aren't reading any Cu is because it is being absorbed by your rock/sand.

Ok the SeaChem copper kit arrived yesterday. Display tank was .2 I dosed another 10ml last night and will check to tonight to be sure I get it up to .5. Also did my first dose of Cupramine on the powder brown tang in QT. He looks great but better safe than sorry. I figure one week of Cupramine by itself on him and then next week I'll do the prazipro and cupramine. So thats 2 weeks cup and 1 week prazi. Then I can do a water change and prepare him for the display which will also undergo a water change and carbon by that time.

Does anyone know if this stuff works. Ran across this product, and this blog says it works pretty well. http://reef-a-holiks.blogspot.com/2016/05/ich-be-gone.html Want to use it for beginning stage of Ich.

That is Chloroquine phosphate soaked food. CP is effective against ich when dosed directly into a QT, but probably only useful as a management tool when fed. This is because ich actually spends more of it's life cycle "off fish" than on the fish. ;)

That and most fish look like your trying to kill them when they taste it

CP is very bitter tasting. Maybe Dr G's uses another ingredient to mask the flavor.

update: the fish look great. I haven't had a chance to grab a seachem ammonia badge yet but I went ahead and did a decent 25-40% water change with copper added to the new water before refilling the tank. Cupramine is at .5. I am hopeful that most of the die off has already occurred so now I can just ride out the duration of the copper treatment.

OK guys I need advice one more time. I've got ammonia under control, I've got Copper stable at .55ppm in both the display and my QT where my new Powder Brown has been living. I wanted to present a timeline I've drawn up that should cover everything and works around my busy end of month travel schedule.

DISPLAY
May 12 - May 16 __Copper was about .3
May 17 - June 3 __Copper was/is .5-.6
June 4 __ Big water change and turn Carbon reactor back on

QT
May 17 - June 4 __ Copper was/is .5-.6
May 30 - June 4 __ Prazipro treatment

June 5 introduce the new fish from QT to display

Using these dates works around my travels and allows me a full week of observation before I go on vacation for another week. Total treatment at full strength would be about 18 days in the display where the issues occurred. Total prophylactic treatment on the QT at full strength 17 days copper and 6 days PraziPro.

I would run copper at full strength for 30 consecutive days, both in the DT & QT.
yes, definitely and make sure that if you are gone during that time, that very strict diligence on maintaining therapeutic levels during your absence is noted with perhaps two or three tests a day by whoever is taking care of your tank. levels cannot drop below therapeutic otherwise the clock starts over.
