actually, the reef was in splendid shape...only the odd bald spot here or there....but FWIW, I doubt it's a bleaching incident....the GBR has been quite lucky.
as for algae....I saw it all over the place ...but no bryopsis that I could see! haha

The algae are what I am really talking about. Either there is a lack of herbivores for some reason or there is excess nutrients.. Just a few of the pics make that reef look like it might be in trouble. There are a few bald spots like on that first monti pic, but that could be some sort of pest. The corals look real healthy despite the algae. But is really not a good sign… I have been seeing algae on allot of reefs lately like the ones off the east coast of Florida. Some actually have gotten a little better to. Thanks for sharing the pics and they are really spectacular. Those pics actually show some of the brighter color coral which is hard to show… The GB reef is still my dream place to dive and hopefully I get there some day...
