Ok
Any ideas guys
Tanks been running 5 years, for the past year my front glass has been going green daily .
Phosphates measure 0 hanna phosphorus checker and Nitrate 0 on Salifert test kit.
Cant understand it.
Some of my SPS have been very pale and my favia bleached out.
I took my rowaphos off line about a week ago and the phosphates are sat at 0.03 which seems good to me. I hoovered my sump out and thats about it.
I wondered if it was the surplus co2 from my reactor so I added a extra chamber and it drips in to the skimmer section so I dont think its that.
All I can think is maybe my sand needs changing out.

Lighting is T5, bulbs new so not that.
Plenty of flow
Feed mainly flake 2-3 times a day
No real algae issues

Hi thanks for the reply
No not really
It's a couple of inches maybe deeper in some parts
Most of the tanks where I see nice bright corals either have no sand or are quite new and the sand is new.
When I've vaccumed in the past there is lots of crap getting sucked out.
I would quite happily take it out but I have 12 wrasse

If you are growing green algae on your glass. There is phosphate in you water. Otherwise it would not be growing. The algae processes the phosphate fast and it is not in the water column long enough for the test to see it. I would send a sample of your water to Triton labs.

So that you can see where your levels are off from Natural Seawater levels. That will give you a better snap shot of where your water is at.
I always suggest a algae scrubber they are great simple and effective remover of phosphate in your tank. You don't have to replace media every month all you have to do is remove the algae. I never have to clean the glass on my Reef tank as the algae scrubber is always removing phosphate from the water.

For me it was as simple as high Temps. My system up stairs would hit 82f in the summer and pretty much with in hours algae would be on the glass again. Put a chiller on it and problem solved. It's not always nutrients.

Dose some phosphates and see what happens, what do you mean?
Thanks DLuce510. I have a temp controller and the fans keep the temp between 25 and 26 so that seems ok.
I think I will take a few hours off my lighting schedule and try that too
