I've heard plenty about growing something like monti-caps to give yourself some real estate later on, but have never really seen a good, established reef sitting on top of a monti. Anyone got some photos to share? Really interested to see it

Awesome! That's actually very similar to what i think i want to try to do. I have 2 very large rock structures that I was considering growing some month's to span between them. I wasnt really sure if I started at one rock if it'd attach to the other side though. Is your actually attached both sides? My gaps kinda far so I thought I'd basically stick a rock in the middle and grow a monti cap from point A to B and then from B to C. If that makes sense. Basically have a long bridge with a support in the middle. On the left is a big chunk of live rock, on the right is a big chunk of live rock, and the “bridge” between the red lines is actually 6 years of old, dead, monti cap growth. and everything growing on it between the red lines is growing on that old thick multiple tiers of monti cap skeleton I grew myself :). I will try and get a top down pic tomorrow

Yea that makes sense! I have one monti colony growing right now that I intend to sacrifice for acro territory, and might frag it or pickup a couple other colors to do the same thing elsewhere. I like the look of "reef on reef" where it looks very natural and everything's built on old reef vs piles of rock. Very nice reef you have! No, mine was growing in a different orientation in my 120, it died back due to an alk swing and when I transferred everything over to the new 180 I turned that rock to make the monti bridge
