Growth on 2 Colonies

Here’s a new one, two acro’s have these “growths”. Brownish, but still has flesh, tips on both, almost looks like feather duster extensions, seem to be growing outwards, but seems like the tissue of the coral is growing with it. Rest of coral has great color, growth & polyp extension. Almost looks like Vermetid Snail cluster, but the “extensions/polyps/feathers?” are almost star shaped. Any ideas on what this is? Planning on cutting them off this weekend

This is very strange. At first glance would appear to be a different acro but I do not believe that is the case.

Can you give more information. Where did you awuire the coral? How long have you had it? How long have these growths been on it? Did you do any dip when you got them?

My initial thought is some species of worm or snail the lives within the polyps. That causes stress and the likely difference in color. The corralite structure appears stunted but the same as the original.
There is what looks like brown detritus being held by the unknown pest.
This is all just conjecture though. As I have never seen anything like this.

More help is needed. @vetteguy53081 got any ideas?

Also if this was in my tank I would cut the affected peices out and dip the coral.

So, I have a question for everyone keeping SPS, and Acros in particular... For around 2 years now I've been having issues with most acros in my 177L frag tank. This problem also occurred in a previous 10g system frag system, from which these corals were transferred, but NOT in my separate 200L...

I’ve had each coral since August 2018. Both came from the same guy breaking down his tank. Dipping isn’t an option since neither would fit in a 5 gallon pail. The green one was near dead when I got it, still has some dead patches on the backside which have never worried me. I do have a large Pocillipora that has “spawns” popping up all over.

The one in the 2nd pic almost does look like pocilopora very interesting.

Kind of does, they pop up, I cut them back when they get a few inches & go from there, if they are some how grafting into existing corals though, that’s a new problem. I’m a little curious if the Acro would out grow it? If that is what it is anyway

I thought it might be but they seem too clustered together & I’ve had different acro’s grow over them & look completely different than this. Also whatever comes from the tips is completely different than a Vermetid

I tend to agree that its a cluster of worms. If you look closely the "polpys" only have two extensions.

OP you can try to super glue over the growth and the acro should encrust over the super glue once its dried.
