H2O2 dipping problems.

Today, I dipped my torch coral in h2o2 to get rid of any bacterial infections in the coral. However, after the dip, the coral completely shrunk up and bubbles formed at the tip of the tentacles. Do you know why this happens?

What was the concentration that you dipped it in?

3 ml/20 ml water, 3% concentration, 4 minutes

Peroxide cannot work this way. All it did was stress the coral, it does not clean or sterilize bacteria at all when applied to frags. Don’t use it this way even if others said they do, it was never helping them.

It has a fair chance of surviving. Those aren’t sensitive listed species, torches, although the dip itself isn’t indicated it’s just stressful to the coral

Oxidation action of h2o2 will kill coral bc they dont have strong enough defenses for exposure to oxidation that burns like acid

H202 is considered a weak acid

You really want to kill them, dip your coral in vinegar. lol
.

If you had a way to put it under less light power till it comes back that’s the one physical change we do to save bleaching during stress events. We use light control here in emergencies

Please update us as to how the coral did. I disagree with the 90% survival chance - perhaps 50/50 at best. But = those corals do 'come back' from stress - perhaps not in 2-3 days. I think people are to a degree going overboard with dips with chemicals that really haven't been well tested.

Thanks for the article - its difficult because many people do not read French - however, its clear that there have been at least some experiments with H2O2 in coral - it does not appear that the OP followed the protocol listed in this paper. It would be great to hear an update.

There is no problem if you translate with Google on Edge or Chrome... It just takes 2 seconds. I always use it to read Reef2Reef in english. And to read your post ;)

I only dip zoas in h2o2. They close up nicely and are tough. i’m scurred to dip the flesh part of euphyllia into that stuff.
