H2O2 overdose

Yep I’m an idiot. Dosed nearly 1ml per gallon, 150ml on a 180 gallon with 40 gallon sump. Doing so much research on trying to defeat dinos I completely botched this.

Should I do an immediate water change?

I have primarily SPS, some BTAs, haddoni, gig and mag anemones. The anemones look ticked off.

Yep SPS have already started browning. I’m seeing brown strings floating from them so assuming they are dumping their zoos?

Anemones and clam look OK, anemones are just balled up.

My understanding is that any damage done by H2O2 will have occurred in the first few minutes after addition. The chemical reaction with oxygen occurs very quickly. It will still help to do a water change to help remove the stuff being released into the water, but you won't be removing the H2O2 at this point.

That makes sense thanks. Seemed to hit the anemones hard but they seem to be bouncing back

If frags or easily removable I would put in a different tank or a bucket if you have while making water changes and waiting for the peroxide to break down.

In safety data on a couple of peroxide based fish meds it was indicated that the strongest reaction occurred in the first 60- 90min.

Possible. It's something you need to monitor.

If you run a calcium reactor or do automated dosing you need to watch your alkalinity as demand will probably drop substantially for awhile.

Looks like the anemones decided to join the zoo dumping party.

They look ok otherwise just ticked off and balled up. Mag is trying to move around and looks the worst.

I understand your frustration. Sometimes, the best solution is to not try so hard. Let your nutrients rise a bit, especially PO4. Do as much manual removal as you can. And have patience if this is a newer system (under 2 years old).
I think we often fool ourselves into thinking we have come up with a solution because dino's cleared up when in reality the tank had matured enough to stabilize.

I think you’re right. I’m gonna just assess the damage and not add anything for a while. The Dino’s were just only on the sand bed but looked crappy none the less.

Well after two hours things aren’t looking so bad. No more zoos dumping by anemones or SPS. Anemones have opened back up and my SPS is still colored and I’m even seeing polyp extension. Maybe it won’t be so bad.
