Hadonni Carpet bare bottom success

Has anyone had success keeping a carpet anemone with a bare bottom? If so what was your secret and how did you accomplish it?

It will probably end up attaching to the rocks or between the rocks and bottom. That species usually prefers to dig into the sand and I think the worst case is that it wanders until it finds sand and eventually dies because there is none to find.

The worst case is the more likely scenario. You can try containers of sand, though, but if you have/want to run BB, then you’re better off not getting species that require a DSB.

I used a wrasse den with success. Carpet had always been content with very minimal sand loss to the bb. Looks pretty natural, especially once covered in coralline algae.

My local fish store has them in coral rubble with great success. Never seen bare bottom though.

I would have to think an LFS doesn't keep them long enough to know whether that's bad for a nem or whether the nems don't care. :-)

They do. It's been in his display tanks for years. I call that success.

I would be keen to know if it can be done. I had kept a couple for 1 month. Set a egg crate barrier to separate them from the rest of the tank and fed them market prawn every other day. One of the kept getting out but the other stayed putt. Nonetheless, I had a box of sand on standby should I see their health decline. Already lost a copperband to one of them.

I had no luck and tried many different options for a long time. But I do have luck keeping them in rock crevices that are large enough for their foot.

Both my Haddonis, decided to relocate to another corner since I last posted. In place, my BTA took refuge. Strange enough both carpets enjoy each others company. I was under the impression they are solitary animals.

I have kept carpets in bare bottoms without issue. They move a lot until they find “that perfect spot”. A lot of times it is a corner or somewhere they can get their entire root under a rock.

as for “snuggling” I have carpets that do that and some that don’t. Even have 6 different types that all snuggle together lol.

Well, well… good to know that haddonis do reside in bare bottom!
