Just changed lights on my problem tank this weekend. Nothing fancy. Used the same set up on a 5’ tank just with a cross bar added.

I have my lights on arms mounted to the glass, but I did come across this video when deciding how to mount my lights, in case you find it helpful:

I really wish I would have done something similar but it was an after thought well after I set my tank. That's a nice setup man!

Custom made cables? I was thinking to but additional ecotech hanging kits but totally forgot about diy cables.
I got a hanging kit from Home Depot, and then combined that with the hanging "stuf" provided by the light fixtures (hamilton tech and orphek)

The cables are retractable, and I left myself 6" of additional wire in case I wanted to drop the lights a little lower.

Yes, that was my issue too, I already had the system up and running against the wall. This is what I ended up with, which works just fine and looks ok in my opinion:

Here’s mine with two different light setups, both mounted to the ceiling:

I went with:
-- TV wall mount ($13 on Amazon)
-- Scrap aluminum angle from other projects

Bad picture just now with lights ramping down:

*note -- my tank is shoved in a nook in the house so just seemed cheapest/easiest at the time,,, plus allows movement of the lights when I wish
