I may be completely stupid, but the syringe marks don't allow for the volume of liquid in the tips. To get to a 9ml total, I used 3.6ml (as marked on syringe) reagent and 4.6ml of water (again as marked on syringe). Total volume looked to be about 9ml (as per the sample bottle 10ml mark).

The lines on the Hanna vials are notoriously imprecise. I would not go by that. Measure the volumes using a syringe or pipettor as they are calibrated. The painted lines on the vials are not.

just got the new Hanna magnesium checker and im disappointed. Also bought the Salifert. My Hanna Magnesium checker is consistently low compared to the Salifert. Hanna - 1135, Salifert - 1290. I just got some ICP kits so I will send in and see which is closer to the truth. Both were consistent in the measurements

Please keep us posted. I got the new one after I sent the old one in. It’s better but still not consistent. Somehow, lately mine was low at 1215 as well then I tested it again it was 1290. I mean it’s not way off but I want to see your icp test.

For the record, my Hanna Mg Checker showed a result of 1270 at the same time I sent my Triton ICP test in and the ICP results that came back today indicated the Mg level was 1236. I'm good with a 3% difference. Also, my brand-new Red Sea Pro test kit had Mg at 1500+.

My tester pops 1800 most of the time on multiple tanks. Something seems off. Aqua Forrest shows 1350-1450 on same tanks

I just lodged a ticket with Hanna on my brand new Marine master and it’s Mg test returning consistently high results. Since new not using the previously troubled liquid reagent.

Below is what I’m seeing

My tank water
Hanna MG – Lot#0118 Exp 5/25 - Mg Level reads 1420
Red Sea Reef Mg Pro Exp 12/23 - Mg Level reads range 1240-1280
Red Sea Reef Mg Pro Exp 9/24 - Mg Level reads range 1240-1280

Newly mixed RS Blue bucket salt @ 1.026
Manufacture Spec - Mg Level 1310
Red Sea Reef Mg Pro Exp 9/24 - Mg Level reads range 1320-1360 – right about where I’d expect
Hanna MG – Lot#0118 Exp 5/25 - Mg Level reads 1525 - way high.

So my experience seems to be very consistent with what I see on elsewhere that the Hanna reports Mg Levels 100-200 above all other tests. I recently lost a couple torches and extension was less on others. I’m now working to raise Mg slowly. Hopefully not doing the wrong thing but the results say the Hanna is way off. So far, my torches seem to be liking it

I have one tank on All for Reef tropic Marin. One on BRS balling system, manually adding MG, but I feel like I never add mg because it always test high on Hannah, or high enough on aqua forest test. Maybe my salt is providing more than enough (tropic Marin pro reef)(?). I have a kinetic reef bot(?) But haven't set it up yet. I'm kind of intimidated by it. Old bird, still afraid of new tech. Lol

I received my Mag checker as part of the first recalled Mag checkers and it was working fine. That was short lived as about 6 months ago it started to test 200 points higher than Salifert and Red Sea. It now resides in the abyss of my closet with the other forgotten reef equipment that doesn't work.

Totally. Testing can become an obsession. Ati is fast and sometimes can give you a quick answer if something is low but even then.... I guess that's the beauty of water changes with good salt. So far that's what's kept me above water so far, knock wood, I think (?)
