Just tested today. The hanna read exactly at 3ppm. I wasnt sure tgat the readings were accurate because the day before i dosed some nitrates (nyos) because the nitrate checker said that my nitrates where at 0.9. I tested nitrates on my salifert kit and it read 25 ppm. I was wondering if anyone else has issues like this with their checkers and if anyone has a solution. Thanks in advance

I do about 10 of these tests a week and once in a while I will have a packet that's wildly low. If it seems way off I will test again and usually get a better result.

Another question is is it normal for the reagnet to look like salt crystals? Because all my reagents that i got with the checker has a salt crystal like structures unlike my phosphate lr reagents.

That's a great way to know the test is bad. I always thought of it as looking "chunky" rather then a fine powder. And those packs would always give a false reading. I would reach out to Hanna with the lot number of that packet and let them know.

I’m not sure I’d assume the Hanna is the one in error. Might be the Salifert.

Both may also be working as expected since the nitrite interference varies and may be higher with Salifert.

Are you sure? Are reading the color chart from the side or the top?

This is TOP

This is SIDE

If you are reading from SIDE, your value is actually 2.5ppm. You have to divide the value by 10 when viewing from the side.

Im buying new reagents and will be comparing results when it arrives
I would still reach out to Hanna with the lot number and let them know what happened. They sent me replacement reagents when I had a similar issue.

Same here. I bought a bunch when they were on sale about a year ago and they were all bad and all from the same lot. They sent me replacements straight away.
