Has anyone kept a clown tang and had it NOT be a major problem?

The fish are staring at me with hungry eyes.

I did end up getting the clown. Very thin so QT was mostly about trying to get on some weight. Actually moved it to the display last night. We shall see. 16th tang LOL.

Cool. This is my third try. First two never ever ate. My local shop here has has some incredibly fat imports coming in. All “expert” fish have eaten pellets on day 2. I have high hopes here.

Although I have generally not worried much about the order of additions in my system, seems prudent for the clown to be the last tang added. I do have a small Achilles in the frag tank, though it will be some years before it has enough size for the display.

I have an 8” clown tang in my 150g currently. (Just waiting on sump to finish the 300g for him)

He is the boss of the tank but I rarely see aggression outside of when a new fish is added.

Everything goes though QT and then to an acrylic box in the tank to allow everyone to settle down. A copper band was the only fish that didn’t make it; however, not fully related to the clown tang.

He completely ignores Wrasse’s and anthias.

I believe one of the reasons he does well in my tank is the high flow. Running 4 MP40s, 2 350 Gyres and Cor20. All run between 75% and 100%. I think it mimics the reef flow they are used to so keeps him constantly fighting the current not other fish.

Clown is getting the ‘business’ from my purple and chevron. Although the chevron is not generally reputed to be a bully, mine has always been on the aggressive side. Clown will hold its own I think and those giving it a hard time may well regret the transgression LOL. It is still a bit on the thin side, though not as bad as when I first got it. Aggressive eater though. Hasn’t shouldered his way to the nori clip, so I may well do as Minh suggests and add a second one.

It did fine. Never grew all that much and then went with the tank when I downsized.

Just grow it: Have you ever added CO2 to your reef tank?
