Anytime I meet local reefers, I mention reef2reef and my user name if they want to see my current and past tanks. I think I should have earned a recruiter badge lol

I would be lost without R2R. When I was researching before I got back into the hobby, I signed up on a few forums. I rarely post to any besides R2R.

I was just curious since the traffic on forums hasn't seemed as busy lately as I recall it being a couple of years ago. I could absolutely be wrong though.

The hobby isn’t nearly as popular today as it was a couple years ago. The COVID bubble was huge

we are going through this on the corporate side for what its worth, and its a complete pita to work around from logic/source code changes to hardware and infra changes. It certainly isn't gonna change though so better to adapt now before you get overrun

I think R2R is doing just fine.

How about month over month stats?
This month to last month?
This YTD VSLY YTD
What about length of stay?
Posts per visit?
Post per user now vs same metrics above?

Randomly dropping numbers does not show a trend which is the question at hand.

I ate 7 tacos yesterday. (True story)

But a year ago I was able to eat 12 (also true)

Context is everything.

Expensive hobby during an expensive time. I know our local club has had an exodus just from costs and people working more leading to less/no time for tanks.

Then the constant onslaught of AI bull, fiery politics, and general misery across the internet has many people checking out of online spaces, or extremely limiting their interactions to small circles like personal discord servers.

Holy moly, Chris. You are 7 tacos on a Monday? Makes a guy wonder how many tacos you ate today since it's Taco Tuesday.

I’ve been noticing a gradual shift toward platforms like Facebook Groups, Reddit, TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube. I come from the forum generation and still prefer forums over everything else, but it’s clear there’s a generational change happening in how people consume and engage with content. In my opinion, R2R should lean into social channels to drive more traffic, grow membership, and expand reef discussions onto those platforms. Building a presence there would help capture meaningful market share where attention is already moving. Forums, as much as I value them, are becoming a declining medium overall. Sucks.

I would think that this hobby, like many high end hobbies, are going through the same thing and that it’s cyclical and will bounce back in the future. It’s hard for many to justify the cost of this hobby when the cost of living is so high. Not to mention increases in shipping, rent, utilities, etc. that our LFS need low in order to stay in business. The good thing is R2R is hands down the best repository of information on the hobby and the best gathering place of hobby experts there is online….

Thanks for attending my TEDtalk..

I’ve been here almost 5 years and I’ve seen an ebb and flow. Definitely a little slower at times than when we were just past Covid but there’s still lots of content. And yes I’m definitely one of those who can be less serious at times. I’ve been on the Facebook scene and overall it’s mostly where people just want to show off their pretties. Serious questions do get asked but not very often.

I don't think you are wrong. I have noticed a change also, but to be fair, I haven't been a regular on the site lately either.
