Thanks Retro Reefer! I've been trying my best! I added a home-made ATO with a float switch and an air pump. It's been going strong for a few months that now without failure. Next up I'm working on a filter media basket that will also house chaeto and a custom grow light that a friend is making for me so that hopefully I can get some refugium action going to help with the hair algae.Nice tank!
Welcome from a fellow Ohioan!Hello all.
My name is Patrick ive been keeping a 5g Fluval Evo reef tank for the past 6 months or so. I have a handful of soft and SPS corals. so far im having a lot of success, learning a ton, and really enjoying myself. The only downsides so far have been hair algae, ich, and an empty wallet.
This is my first saltwater tank, and my main focus is on coral rather than fish. I have a single 6-line wrasse, and a few inverts in my tank. (hermits and various snails). Before this, i kept a 75 freshwater gallon tank in college with a couple small turtles. what a mess...i wont be doing that ever again. they are mean and gross. but ive always wanted a saltwater reef tank - so a nano was a nice way to get into things. The plan is to move up to a 40-50 gallon setup with a sump sometime this summer - a 5g nano is nice in the kitchen, but the upkeep is murder, and im running out of space - my wife wants a few more fish, and I want a few more corals.
Ive joined a few local OH reef groups on facebook, and been pleasantly surprised by the friendly, helpful and generous people in this hobby! ive been given frags, people have loaned me equipment, and theres no shortage of advice either. Im really happy to be a part of the community!
I look forward to sharing thoughts/pictures with you all! (ill post a reply with a few shots from my tank after i get home from work today)
thanks a lot,
Patrick Fox
wow, thats such a cool tank design!Welcome fellow Ohioan Westerville area. I had a 5.5 gallon setup for about a year. Right now running a 20 gallon
That’s a beautiful looking tank Patrick very nice indeed!I've attached a few images of my reef that i had in my phone. Some are a bit old and stuff has grown a lot since. Also, the cleaner shrimp unfortunately is no longer with us. Best I can tell is that something got him mid-molt. One day he was fine, the next day In Pieces on the floor being eaten by hermits.
I'll take a few more updated pics when I get home later. [emoji41]
