Hello everybody

Let me introduce myself very quickly...

I've always loved aquariums, I had my first aquarium (freshwater) when I was 7, anytime I went to the LFS with my parents I always liked the marine fish so at 13 I got tired of that and started mu own marine aquarium... there was no internet then so this hobbie was very different...

From then I've always had an aquarium or two installed in the house and I am very passionate about it...

I love DIY and to make my own stuff...

This is a video of my actual reef, the video is from a few months ago but haven't had time to shot a new one...

As of today I have a monti cap takeover situation, those grow FAST !

Also I am in the process of a new tank build but that will be a separate thread...

I am happy to join the R2R community !

That's a gorgeous tank you have! Can you give some details on your setup?

Thank you

Here some details:

Sump: undivided 40g

Controller: Apex

Return Pump: reeflo dart

Internal circulation: 2x Ecotech Vortech MP60 and 1 Maxspect Gure xf150

Skimmer: Reef Octopus Extreme XS350 that most of the time works with 2 instead of 3 pumps because sicce psk1000 pumps suck big time and the impellers explode

Sporadic use of acropower, potassium chloride, redsea iron and seachem strontium

Second day in the group and I have bad news...

The last two days I have been in bed by medical advice... thats not the bad news...

Today I got out of my bedroom at 7 am and I noticed that downstairs (where the aquarium is) was strangely silent...

Everything was off... the circuit breaker tripped

After restoring power i got the email from my apex saying the power failed yesterday 8am so it went 23 hours without power

Seems like the battery backup for apex is dead...

I have battery backup for one of the vortechs mp60 so i guess it worked 8-10 hours... but no heaters.

Temp now is 22c (71.6f)

Japanese Swallowtail angelfish is dead, the six line wrasse pair is missing, as well as the mandarin pair, no bodies found yet so i still have some hope...

Corals look BAD, washed out colors, hammer and galaxea closed, some ejected polyps on digitatas, yongei and some monti vaps with RTN on some parts...

I hope things get better from here... lets wait and see... not many things to do

welcome. Questions, how is it having an aquarium in mexico, is it easy or difficult to source hardware, livestock, ....?

We have some serious fish stores that have great corals, not as much as you have in the US, but we have some...

There is a big aquarium market in mexico city, but mostly for fish, i dont like to buy there because of very poor health on specimens... or if i cant find it elsewhere i buy there and I have a permanent qt tank for that purpose...

As for hardware, we have distributors for all major brands here in mexico, personally I buy most of my hardware in the US because I travel a lot to california

We have bery actuve facebook and forums community so frag swaps and buy from friends are the main source of corals.

This is the one i like the most for corals reefservices

Another one alfaquarium:

The morelos market:

thank you for sharing that information, sorry to hear your tank is going through some stuff. Even with 10 different fail safes and plan b,c,d,... stuff can still happen. Happens to us all.

Agree...

I just found out about the HEARTBEAT function on apexfusion form one forum comment...

Would be great that when Neptune Systems makes an important update like this one to post it directly on apexfusion landing page and not only through their forum, which nobody visits...

That could have prevented this...
