Looking for help on healthy corals (torches) just randomly dying. I believe the parameters are good cause these are spawn offs. Don’t see how parameters can be bad if the spawns are growing and looking great. Now head by head they’re dying.

what does a dead head look like and how fast do we go from healthy to dead.

I do see a lot of Aptasia and they can be quite problematic.

Even if an Aiptasia doesn't instantly wipe out a large torch colony, continuous stinging causes the torch to stay retracted, leading to slow starvation and eventual death.

Dead heads look white and it usually takes less than a week once I notice it not as happy

Parameters?

Light and flow?

Any of your livestock bothering them?

Age of tank?

Flow looks fine to me. Aptasia doesn't look anywhere close to irritate the heads. A syringe with a kalk paste mix laced with some rotifers will deal with those and is a penny treatment or in your case less than a dime 😉
Do you target feed the torches? A wee baist of rotifers/mysis an hr before lights out.

A torch coral imo is the canary in your system, ie if it looks ****e then something is wrong with parameters

Parameter's are important and they only work/balance out in a specific order.
1st Salinity, 35ppt/ 1.026
2 Magnesium 1350/1360
3 Calcium 400/430
4 Alkalinity 7/8

We want to know how yours are looking?

*edit, Some folks may differ and prefer elevated parameter's and that is cool 👍 . The ones i have listed are my preference as i like to keep mine as close to natural seawater

always lead with parameters, we're going to ask.

I do not see dead heads. I see deflated heads, or at least one deflated head anyway. Most of my torches deflate once a day or two and bounce right back.... So my experience says that's not really a problem.

I agree. 👍

I have a torch in each of my systems. I see heads retract and fully extend after an hour, Normal behaviour 👍

You have ton of bubble algae and that other neon green torch is not happy as well.

My money is on your water parameters.
I have bubble algae in my cube and niether of my lps, torch, hammer, duncans are affected.

I agree Parameters 👌

Though from my experience bubble algae in a reef is a sign of good water

ah sorry, those are two separate comments.
one for bubble and unhappy torch and the other is me betting my cheese on his water

Sorry for the late response

Salinity 1.026
Calcium 440
Alk 10
Magnesium 1400
Age is 6 years
2 clowns only right now

My nutrients are very low but they have always been low.

Like always when I have an issue the first thing people ask is whats my perimeters and I understand that but there never out of range and they’re pretty consistent. My confusion is how can the same perimeters create this amazing growth and those same perimeters be killing corals?? All those gold torches you see are spawns from a different torch. I would think that tank conditions would need to be ideal in order for that to happen.

I think maybe there’s a pest in my tank that I don’t know of and not having wrasses could be my issue. But I try to only put quarantine fish in my tank so sometimes it’s time consuming to get anything in there.
