I can't speak to the filter itself, but you probably won't get enough flow from just using this filter alone.

Its got good reviews I say go for it. That is a good flow rate for that size tank but I also suggest getting a powerhead also.

I think it would suffice but I would recommend getting better biological media than bio balls. They might even be too large for it. You don't have to have a sump. But here's the problem. It's pushing out 265gph going up to your tank. The higher it pushes the harder it's going to be for it to get to that 265gph when it comes to the end of the return. So in theory your flow rate in your return will definitely go down to maybe even around 200gph or even less all depends on how high it has to push. So let's say you do get a sump that's extra money but you won't have to worry about the pressure it has to push because it will just go in the sump. But if you get a stronger canister filter one with more pressure and flow you won't have to run into that problem. You know? I can be wrong but it's a totally understandable theory. I've had a two canister filters and I've never had that problem mainly due to them both being higher quality pumps but maybe yours might work who knows? It's worth a shot.

, remember to stop for a second and don't get frustrated there's a lot of information that gets thrown around you just need to take it one step at a time that's what I had to do I've got numerous papers with notes everywhere around my house so remember this is fun Keep It Fun
