Hello, I have a very beautiful Maxima Clam which I’ve kept since, 10/18/20 and have never seen one comparable. I’d love to have a little more insight if any clam guru would like to chime in and potentially tell me what this variant would be if any. The photo below was taken 08/23/21.

I’m away from home at the moment and haven’t snapped a pic recently but it still has the same beautiful markings only it’s now almost 7” if not slightly larger (will post an updated pic once I return home)

Additionally I’m in the process of moving and considering starting over, which would mean that I may have to part with him, that alone is rather saddening. Does this type of Maxima with the bold darker markings appear often? If so what would I be looking at for one of a similar size. I understand that it’s one of a kind but I’m quite fond of it. I also wouldn’t even know what a fair asking price would be. Any insight is greatly appreciated.

Also I would say the color viewed from above has significantly intensified. It’s almost a striking neon shade of cyan/blue that is difficult to describe. It still looks more true blue while viewed inside of my display. It has 2 massive white growth bands with a third forming in addition

Nice Maxima.
I think it would be hard for you to find a buyer that will pay the price that should be pay. They will lowball you for this clam.

I mean.... It is a clam. It is nice for sure. But I see similar markings/coloring often. Now clams are hit or miss when it comes to price. Similar size and coloring is probably right around $250 or so.

Thank you! It was just wondering if I would be in a position where I sell it to somebody locally and then have issues finding a similar one let alone having it cost a significant amount more. What would be a reasonable price to ask if I expect to replace it and have it be relatively the same price? Also do you have any vendors you’d recommend that either stock similar or would have a better chance at finding one like it?

I think clams are like snowflakes, they’re all uniquely different. You can find similar patterns and colors, but it’s really your preference. I honestly think some, if not all clam prices are way overpriced. But a healthy, vibrant clam that’s been well taken care of and has been living/thriving in an aquarium should be worth something.
I would try to find a way to keep the clam if you can, maybe have friends who has a healthy system will hold it for you until after your move? If not, I agree with @OrionN, you should get $250 if not more easily. A 7” captive raised maxima that’s healthy is worth that are least.
