Help! I made a mistake

Unless he’s doing a water change with fresh water, I don’t think rinsing equipment outside the tank with fresh water would add enough bad things to the tank to cause this. Seems it has to be the lava rock.

What size tank are we talking about? If you mentioned it, I missed it, but The smaller, the quicker to nose dive from impurities.

Sorry to hear this. If it can’t be saved, don’t lose hope.learn from the mistake and start over. Most of us have had a similar crash.

im thinking so myself it’s 125g I plan on trying some seachem cuprisorb tomorrow. I’m wrecked over this.

It’s tough, it hang in there. I just got back in the hobby 8 months ago, and lost 90% of my fish from ich and basically had to start over. It sucked but this forum helped knowing I was not alone and could get good advice on how to fix things and move on.

If you are talking about nutrients, cleaning equipment and WC don’t do “bad things” ……turn on your skimmer. Im confused at what you think you did? Did you use fresh water for the WC instead of salt?

I was thinking cleaning agent, but this is a good theory. If it was fresh water and not salt, it would have driven down the salinity. This would explain the sudden deterioration of the coral.

I did wash all filtration with fresh water. I think I figured out something I left out. I tried adding some volcanic rock from an old fresh water aquarium but took it out after a few days. I completely forgot but it was used on a fresh water aquarium for years that had silicate substraight. So I’m pretty gutted. My water column is testing normal but my coral and nems are looking very very bad. All my fish are fine.

Don't expect things to bounce back as quickly as they went south. It doesn't work that way in this hobby.😉

Quick question for ya. How often do you do water changes, and about what percentage of do you change out? If this is the first one that you've done, its possible that you removed to much old water out and thrown your cycle for a loop.

Oh I know. But I’m not looking for comments like this. This has zero help in the situation. Just crass poke at someone having a hard time. I’ll get through this and I plan on posting an educational video to help others. So no one has to go through what I am right now.

Many people expect a quick bounce back after a problem has been corrected. I was trying to inject a little
light-hardheartedness into your situation in an effort to be supportive.

No need to get testy. Good luck.
