Yes, but scales take a long time to heal - kind of like growing a fingernail back. A month or more is typical.

Thats assuming that the original cause of the damage has been resolved….

If I dose the Prazicleanse in the DT how would I know if the bacteria ate it before it had a chance to work? Would it cause a bacterial bloom with cloudy water?

I can’t confirm but I’m leaning towards Neonendenia flukes that is doing the damage. Problem is they will be in the DT tank so it needs to be treated, but the Prazi won’t work because of the bacteria and I don’t have an accurate hydrometer so I’m kinda out of options. I can get formalin that’s not a problem. I know all about the hazards but at 73 I’m not too concerned about dying from cancer from formalin. I know the 25ppm dose won’t kill flukes so it would need to be a bath which I see you wrote at 150 ppm?

I wonder - you could use a 5 minute FW dip to confirm Neobenedenia - you’ll be able to see dead flukes in the dip water after. This would be less stressful than a formalin bath.

Tje 150 ppm dose kills flukes, but you need to move the fish to an uninfected tank after the dip, and possibly do that twice.

Fritz has two similar products, I think prazicleanse is the one with just prazi in it? If so, it can be used in the DT. I think the other product is Paracleanse? That has metronidazole in it and cannot be used in a DT.

How many times has your DT been treated with prazi? You can usually get 4 or 5 treatments before the bacteria really starts to grow.

You should not see a bacterial bloom if you are using pure prazi - it is usually the solvent that causes that. Don’t use a solvent with Prazicleanse.

I’ll do the FW dip. If it’s flukes I’m going with hyposalinity. Since I only need 1.012 it gives me a little wiggle room from 1.009. My total water volume including the sump is 95 gallons and the current salinity is 1.022. Temperature is 79.4 degrees. What would be the calculation dropping the salinity to 1.012 in 72 hours? Sorry math is my weakness. Once they got to A+B=C they lost me.

I have the Prazicleanse the one with pure Prazi that has 190mg Prazi. Total volume including the sump is 95 gallons so I can use 5 packets, Last time I dosed the tank with it was on 4/30. I already posted about hyposalinity so if the Prazi treatment doesn’t work I will go with that. Sincerely appreciate your help!!

Prazi is not really soluble in water - when you disperse pure prazi powder into the water, like pushing it through a fine net, or mixing it in some water and then adding it, it will make the water slightly cloudy for a bit. If it is clear to begin with, but then the water clouds in 2 to 3 days, that's from bacterial action, and is usually only seen when using a solvent. Even when using a solvent, if you watch closely, when the solvent-dissolved prazi hits the water, it immediately comes out of solution as a fine suspension. That will clear in a few hours, but then, it may cloud up later, and that is due to the bacterial bloom.

I dosed the Prazicleanse at 11:30 this morning . I mixed it with a half gallon of RO water. It mixed very well. Maybe there is something in the Prazicleanse that helps to dissolve the Prazi? Then I poured the solution into the DT. Looking at it now the water is completely clear. I’ll do the second dose in 8 days on 8/9 then the third dose on 8/17. If I do a fourth dose I’ll do it on 8/25. So far so good! Thanks again!!

No - as far as I know, Prazicleanse does NOT use a solvent. You are just seeing the clouding from the suspension it makes in the water - that's normal. Your dosing schedule is appropriate....
