hey guys! First time poster and a brand new reefer here

I’ve just received almost all of my set up in the post today and have spent most of the day fighting with my new RO/DI unit that very conveniently did not come with any instructions and I haven’t been able to find any videos on this model on youtube or anywhere. I’ve ran into an issue with closing the cap of the RO membrane chamber and i’m sure there is a very logical way to do this and i’m not seeing it but I just want to air on the side of caution as to not break anything. The system is an AMS (Aquatic Management Solutions) 4 stage 100GPD RO/DI unit if that helps anyone and attached is a video of me explaining and showing my problem. Also it was wet inside two of the chambers??? Don’t know why but the filters and everything in it are new so ig it’s no problem? Thank you in advance for any help, i’ll definitely be using this forum a lot in the next few months I can imagine 😊

also sorry guys I feel like a bit of an idiot but because there are no instructions I don’t know how to use the inline fitting it came with or if I have to remove those red cap bits over each of the in/out puts

It takes a bit of force. I found using the inside of needle nose pliers that you can tighten bolts with (NOT THE CUTTING PART). Give me a couple
I finally got it!! So glad

Could you give me a hand about the red bits and the inline fitting? The unit also only came with 2 metres of line instead of three lengths of different colours, so i’m assuming I just have to cut three lengths from the one they gave me?

Great job. What red bits? I'm not great, still new. Usually black tubing = waste water, red is tap I believe and blue is filtered. I could be wrong but others can help you. When I redid mine I forgot to take a picture of things, maybe check to see if you can find those pictures for where you bought it from?

The only hosing I got was white unfortunately, the red bits are on the in/out puts and i’m assuming I take them off but i’m not sure (i’ll attach a photo of them and also the tap bit i’m talking about)

I also can’t seem to find any photos or videos anywhere of this unit which sucks

I've never seen the red parts before but they appear to be plugs . You have to be able to put hoses on the inlet / outlet . The other part attaches to a hose bib and the valve turns for water to supply either a hose or your rodi
filter . My system came with one but I went to a plumbing supply store and got a valve that mounted in the sink cold water supply line. Remember you should flush the membrane before use as they have a preservative on them when they're new . Try to keep your cuts square and clean to avoid leaks . I bought a cheap cutter for the water line that works quite well.

It’s not looking great now!! Haha
I’m waiting on my dry rock and more aragonite to come in the mail (no lfs ☹️) but after that comes it’ll start shaping up! Currently has just one rock and I’m waiting for my bio sand to develop over the next 24 hours now that I’ve sorted out my water
My tank is a small 65 litre (17 ish gallons I think???) blue planet rimless, being run on a fluval 207 canister loaded with bio media. I don’t have a protein skimmer as of yet and am on the look out for a hob one but until I find one i’ll be doing 10-20% changes every week. I have a fluval reef led light over the top and just a heater and power head inside
I thinkkkkk I’ve got everything I immediately need set up wise along side my test kits and refractometer
I would’ve loved to have started off with a bigger tank but I actually built a stand from scratch for a different tank and after i’d finished I decided I wanted a new tank so I wish I had thought of that earlier hahaha

Looks pretty sleek. Soon you will have your tank picture on your computer screen wallpaper 😉

Did you add anything to kick off the cycle ?

You won’t need a protein skimmer anytime soon

I had a FOWLR tank with your exact setup for 3 years No sump no skimmer etc worked out pretty good
(Love your wooden cabinet stand)

1 thing you might want to look into is a heater guard / barrier on your heater to protect the fish

Once I add the sand tomorrow so that there is another medium for the bacteria to grow into to i’m going to add in Dr Tim’s ammonia chloride and their one and only bacteria too and hopefullyyyy it’s all done in about two weeks and I can start slowly adding livestock

The stand took about 10 years off my life hahaha, first proper thing i’ve made all myself! Good tip about the heater guard, I hadn’t even thought about that! Do you think should get something to go over my power head? Planning on getting a nem once the tank is established and am worried about coming down to a nemmy cocktail
