Help me understand 0 nitrate/phos

The times I've had that situation, my organic matter was high.

Try to see if you have too many fish, if you're overfeeding them, or if they're not effectively exporting nutrients.

Too much organic matter causes heterotrophic bacteria to grow, consuming its organic nutrients.

Maybe. It has pros and cons. I personally use and recommend a different type of bacteria. The nonsulfur purple types. I use microbe lift special blend (smells horrible) and do not turn off my skimmer.

Do you dose the special blend daily ?

No, it smells to bad for that. I have dosed it two or three times when we are going out and plan to be away for an extended period. lol

I'm kind of the "odd-man-out" when it comes to cyano. I don't worry about it - I see it more as an indicator. In my (anecdotal) experience, it seems to proliferate when my system has a change in nutrients, and go away when I reach stability. The video posted is in-line with what I've seen.

I remember I had a 20 gallon reef at home covered in hair algae. Eventually the hair algae got covered by red cyano, which I siphoned out after about 2-3 weeks. The cyano and dead hair algae came out together, and neither came back.

I've also seen it in an aquaculture setting during changes to the diet. It pops up here and there, but I do nothing and it's gone within 2 weeks.

I didn't know he was on your area. I remember when watching the live stream thinking of this thread. Then Dong gave you a shout out! Was about benefits of dosing ethanol instead of vinegar if I remember correctly.
I tend to like the natural approach to reefing and the mentality of sometimes less is more. This is why Dong's way resonates with me. I am glad you took time to check out the video.
