Hey all, I need some help ID’ing an issue with my angel. He’s acting fine, eating like a champ, no weird breathing or behavior. I thought it was just from my wrasse nipping at him but I want to be sure. He has a white spot at the top of his fin that I noticed this weekend, and then the fin by his gills looks weird today. Thoughts? Tankmates: Valentini puffer, damsel, blue-headed fairy wrasse, and Diamond watchman Goby.

Can you give some more history (how old, quarantined, etc?). It's hard to tell from the pictures - but it looks almost like lymphocystis. How are your water parameters? Can you give some more info about the lesion near the gill - which may be an injury?

I haven't checked my parameters yet, but will do so soon. We had a tank crash in February and just restocked the tank so I have had him for about 2 weeks (same for all the fish.) Near the gill is more like his fin is damaged it looks larger than the other. Ill try to get a video or better pictures. He is quick. haha.

Likely lympho which is viral
Can also be post injury
Either way, keep an eye on it for improvement and assure good water quality and diet as always

Great the reason I asked about your parameters and shipping is that lymphocystis can often 'break out' during stress - like shipping, or shifting parameters. The fact that this happened shortly after coming to your tank amplifies that thought. Also - make sure your current parameters are excellent. Nice tank

Thank you! We fought hair algae for a long time and just now have it starting to look decent again. Waited for a long time to replace our fish and coral after the power outage killed everything. It's almost time for a partial water change anyway, so Ill double check everything and do that sooner than this weekend. Appreciate the help!
