It looks like a sponge to me.
You can check whether it moves when touched. If it doesn't move at all, then it is probably a sponge.
If so, it is a harmless filter feeder.

Thank you! Tried to mess with it this morning and it stayed put. No movement. Strangest sponge I've ever seen.
