Help with Brown Algea that spreads like a web or string (bubbles form)

Every day I come home and need to clean this stuff up. I squirt it off my rocks and corals with my feeder and one or two good squirts is enough to push it off. It then is taken by the current until it bundles up at the top of my tank at the edge of the glass. Not sure what happened. Here are the recent changes:

two fish have gone missing and may be dead as my tank overheated an most of the fish died one missing corpse from that episode. More recently my diamond back gobbie is missing.

I have changed my lights from MH to T5 and had to shut down two of the four bulbs. I am not that experienced with the set up and am not sure what each bulb brought to the system. But I have two blue and two white running. Also am not running the moon lights any longer

I was told to do more water changes but I have been doing this every two weeks about 15%. I was also a little late in changin the carbons. Just added one a few days ago. How long will it take for this to make a difference?

sounds like cyano. do a search on it and you'll find numerous threads on how to combat it.

I have seen what your talking about in my own tank a couple times... I'm not sure what it is exactly but I don't think it's cyano... I was thinking more of a bacteria bloom from dosing mb7 but I could be easaliy mistaken... I'm far from a pro on the topic lol...

try doing some weekly water changes and also try turning the lights off for a day. when you blow the stuff off of the rocks try to get as much as possible out of the tank. you also my want to try running a phosban reactor.

This is how I have fixed it in the past and I am dealing with it again now.

1. No water changes until its gone
2. Reduced feeding
3. Reduced photo period
4. lights black out and tank covered with blanket for 24 hrs every two weeks
5. Turkey baste all corals every day to make sure they dont get blanketed

If you have SPS , then you need to be careful about reducing photo period.
