So ive had this and a smaller red goniopora for about 3 weeks maybe ? The first 30 min of getting it. It opened way up. More than the store and looked great.. but overtime i realized my heater wasnt working properly and my temps went to 85f. From the normal 80 or so i keep it at.

The red goni bleached a little and the green closed up completetly. Lowered the temps. And its been about 2 weeks now and it opens. But only 60% of the way. I have been moving it in different spots. In the shade. Middle bottom. And i cant figure out why its always like this.

So i decided to sit in my room for 3 hours watching it. And right when it opens up and its at 50% my larger fish always spook it back into itself. And i noticed these corals seem to be sensative to touch and stuff.

I ttied moving it and making walls and small places so my larger fish stay away but that seems to make then come even more. For some reason my 7-9 inch fish wanna cram thenselvs into snall places.. constantly iritating this coral.

I cant figure out where to put it. Except this one spot i just placed it. The only problem is this spot is high light. Its one of the tallest places in my tank. But it is a plateau so perfect for its flat base. Flow isnt too high here either.

It is on the very end of my tank but my lights do span full 72 inchs. I have 4 t5 bulbs. I isually only keep my acros this high and nothing else.

I dunno what to do lol. Should i keep it here see what happens or do you think this is too high up ? Its about 5 inchs from the surface of the water, my lights are 8 inchs from the water. If you look at my pic i had it prior on the sand bed thats now empty directly below this. And my fish as i said keep iritating it. anywhere i place it on the sand they will find a way to swim up to it, its annoying. I do know the new spot i put it in they never go there i just worry about the high light. I had deep water acro stags there once and they bleached fast from the high light. I had to move em down mid way in the tank.

I have mine high and center which recieves flow from both sides in an alternating fashion so that it ( dances ) in the flow. When I recieved the frag it was extremely small maybe the size of a dime? Maybe smaller..

8 months in and it's golf ball size, for the first month it wouldn't open at all, month 2 I thought it was going to die, only opened sometimes and was extremely sensitive to everything!

About 45 days in first picture, 70 second picture and now I've had it for 8 months and this was yesterday ( last pic ) .

But i cant keep it on thr bottom due to my fish. You guys may not have big fish like i do. I have 4 tangs and a foxface. They are pretty large and always like to swim near corals on the bottom. One second my goni is finally openeing. The next its completetly suken in due to some ******* fish usually the sailfin who bumps into it lol.

So i had to move it further up, but due to the corals i have and flow how large it gets i have no mid placement for it. So i had to move it up on top in my picture.

One guy mentioned 200 par thats high lights. Im unsure how much par my top spot has but i know its at least 200 up there as it turns acros pink and high light colors and so forth when theyre that high in my tank.

It seems to be openeing up more this high too. Since its away from the big fish. Just not nearly like it used too. First pic is what it looked like when i first got it in my tank. Then it got iritated by high temps and my fish bumping into it. And then me moving it alot.

The other pics are of it now in the high up spot. Its very high up there outs 24 inch tall tank its about 5 inchs from the surface. But at least its openeing somewhat again .

I keep my 4 goni’s in 180 to 200 PAR spot with moderate flow. My fox face sits in them and they don’t budge. My recommendation is pick a spot with decent light and flow and leave it alone

Thanks. My sailfin agitates it though. He will go on top of it then swim hard smacking it and it closes the coral. That or he just bumps into it and it closes right up. Then it takes hours to open up even a little again.

But see my above post. See how high up i put it. That spot is very high.. 200 par easily and no large fish to mess with it. And its finslly openeing again.. So ima leave it there and not ness with it anymore like you said
