I had tagged him. As I was looking for DYI stands he kept showing up so I figured it’d be a good place to ask. As everyone keeps saying, I know my tank is small but I think I’m just gonna plan to go ahead with the “overkill” because I know at some point I will upgrade. I absolutely appreciate everyone’s responses, input and welcomes. Thank you so much.

I've been tagging along, I've suspected that you were after RocketEngineer's tried and true stand plan.

I was a little confused by your first post, but I now think you're trying to plan for a future upgrade?

If so, I would build your 2x4 stand up to the size you eventually want, and I'm assuming you're aspiring to something like a 40 gallon. Build it per Rocket Engineer's design, plan it for your future tank, put a piece of 3/4" plywood on it, and that 10 gallon will be no problem, in my non-expert, run-on-sentence of a reply :)

I'm not an engineer, I don't claim to be, but if you have questions about building stands for tanks under 150 gallons, I would be happy to try to help you. Anything bigger, I'm out, call an engineer ;-)

Thank you I do have one more question. Is it possible to put legs on the bottom of the stand to raise it off the floor just a couple of inches?

I'll answer that this way: You can absolutely shim a stand from the bottom, meaning at the floor.

If you're building a stand, simply make it the height you want it. Did you purchase a stand and it's not tall enough?

Yes, I think you can use leveling legs or shims. Again, your final project is not clear to me, I'm assuming you're talking about your 10 gallon now and then maybe a 40 gallon later. There are definitely leg leveling feet that can hold that kind of weight.

I am building a stand. Just thought about feet for leveling and maybe to protect my floor from scratches, etc. from the stand.

Right now with this tank, I would build it how you want it. I would not worry about making it heavy duty for a future upgrade, because things probably and will change. You can add levelers on each corner. One of the important things to add is "sheer" bracing to keep the stand from rocking from the weight on top. This can be accomplished by a sheet of wood on the back or some sort of diagonal bracing.
