You don't *have* to feed it, but it will grow a lot quicker and colour up much nicer if you do.
I always feed anything with tentacles haha.

Yes, Daniel, it is a living creature and you need to feed it. Some corals in captivity can survive by feeding off nitrate, phosphates, and organic debris in tank water. Others need additional food. So whether you are feeding them directly or indirectly, they need nourishment. IME, acans do better with supplemental feedings, as Tyler pointed out.
