Al U min U um.
Zed.
Nis an.

Colour has a U in it, and what is the purpose of a room for resting in, it’s a toilet…

Jokes aside. We don’t really get Sicce here, it’s becoming bigger but historically it’s just not a brand sold here. So up until recently I assumed it was a Chinese company and pronounced See-c.

When I was a youngster working at the LFS the mispronunciation of tropical fish names was rife, Cicklids and Gouryarmies every weekend along with playties.

Everytime I hear it that way, it makes me question the persons snobbishness.
Ha. totally! how's this for a nerdy name drop. Back maybe 2004, the first time I heard this was on the phone with none other than Eric Borneman! I tried to say it that way for a while and i just couldn't get the hang of it.

I wish I could remember back when I worked at lfs's there were some many ways people would pronounce things that would get under my skin. I mean I was pronouncing everything wrong too but my way sounded cooler.
Ar my LFS - Cichlids were - Chill-ids. guorami = Gomora and plecostumus were coc-os-tamus

Some I'm surprised are not yet listed:

stylocoeniella: stylo-cone-ee-yella (no idea)
Goniopora: is it goni-o-pora or goni-opera?
Echinata: ekinata or echinata? I say the former (like echidna), but I always hear the latter.

If this Hobby isn't confusing enough, there are an abundance of titles and names that are often confusing as to how they are pronounced. Some are:

Sicce - Sea-chay - we often hear Sice
Tunze - Tune - zee - we often hear Tons
Chaeto - Kato - we often hear cheeto
Noopsyche - Noop-sh= We here many variations such as Noop-sike

What are some you have seen or mis-pronounced (dont be bashful) ?
I personally call Chaeto Cheeto, on purpose just for fun. Of course you are correct on the Sicce thing....I hear that mispronounced all the time.

Of course the Brits say Al-Gee not algae as westerners do.

Anacropora...might as well be Acropora.
