Here in NY we pay 23 cents per KW/HR. I pay about $180 a month in months when I am not using heat or AC. Like now.

To go where? Jobs in my field will only pay me a quarter for what I’m making in other states. Doesn’t make sense for me to leave.
Well, depending on where you live, CA is 4 times more expensive than most of the rest of the country... So it might actually even itself out between actual cost of living, gas, and state taxes...

hello reefers!!

My electricity bill has been a lot higher lately. I live in California with 30 cent per kWh!

I added an energy monitor the other day and it cost me $1.5 per day to run my tank! I imagine it would be $2 per day in the winter. It’s only a 90G tank with 3 XR15s and no skimmer.

My electric bill used to be $100-$150 before my tank and now it’s $220-$350 with only 2 adults and 1 toddler in a newly built home.

What’s your guys electricity bill with the tank??
We have this thread periodically, welcome to high as hell electric prices in CA.

50 & 120g tanks and 1.5 of us (gf isn't here all the time). I also travel a bit for work. 1/2 of that bill is the electricity to run both tanks. When the A/C kicks in, it usually triples.

If there isn't a state income tax, there's almost certainly a sales tax, which can be worse. Everything costs me 10% more thanks to our sales tax.

And there will always be a lovely program that you think is stupid that gets funded from your tax dollars... For me, it's an extra $400 a year in car tabs to fund a light rail project that, no joke, won't even be built in my city for another 25 years.

I'm not even opposed to the light rail... it just galls to pay for something that the cities to the north will get to use immediately while my city's portion won't even be built until the northern section needs renovation.

I mean. Kinda close but not really. Link Light rail to the dome is supposed to be operational by 2035. That is 11 years.

All of this is why we left that area and back to Montana. No sales tax here and very minimal income tax.

Op - I pay 6 cents/KWH. So I saw a minimal increase for my tank. When I was in the Seattle area it was cheap as well. I believe something like 14 cents/kwh. I enjoy it so I don't care.

The government paid most of the panel and battery costs.

Cheaper than building power stations.
Um power stations can run for years maybe decades and are reliable. solar is unreliable and can contain chemicals that could cause cancer or just poison you.

Wait until the classify your aquarium as a luxury item and require it to be on as smart metered socket so that they can bill you peak and/or turn it off when your neighbor wants to charge their electric car or run their electric stove... because the grid is overloaded. Coming to a town near you soon ;)

Rates are going up in a lot of places too, to help fund modernize the grid.

My 130gallon tank uses 300kWH per month. it doesn't vary much from summer to winter because its in the basement which stays at a pretty steady temperature throughout the year.

With the cost of living now, moving to the middle of no where wouldn’t be that much cheaper while making significantly less. I would not survive making $15-20 in other states with car payment alone lol

100-Gal tank
Solar power, tied to grid, our electric bill never changes, 18.35 a month, that's a meter charge.
No sales tax or income tax here

My bill is around $700/mo, 72 kWh per day. I switched to Time of Use (TOU) where I’m paying 24c/kWh during off-peak hours. Well, 1/3 of my bill is due to 17% on-peak usage, which is charged at 60c/kWh!!! Yikes

Got 4 tanks + Tesla

Need to go solar - ugh

That might be negated by the high cost of living in cali. Some areas are much more than others though. We don’t know your situation (and that’s ok. It’s your business I’m not prying)
