I use nopox. The smell is mostly methanol. But is isn't magic. It is like bacteria fertilizer. The bacteria eat the nitrates and phosphates. The only way to get then down short term is water changes.

oops
Ya, what saltyfilmfolks said.

ok so i did a 50% water change. I got that water supply from a LFS. I did test that LFS water and all positive results - less phosphate, nitrate level etc. I did another test after 1 hour. My nitrate and phosphate level is still the same... so i added 1 ml NOPOX.. i will also do another WC in another 2-3 days. not sure what else to do for now...

What do you mean by less phosphate, nitrate level etc from LFS water. Those numbers should be 0 ppm. If they are not, I would find a different place to get your water or purchase your own RO/DI unit and make your own water.

So you did a 50% water change and the values didn't fall at all?? Something is leaching or the testing was done in error or the kits might be bad. You should see a decrease in your values after changing that much water.

I mean I checked my LFS water param, it was not bad as my current water. I wouldn't say it was 0 ppm but very low amount. Meaning the color was very light.

and yes, I'm planning to get a RO/DI unit.

Yes, that's right :( after doing 50% change I checked the water it was same as before.. The test kit is fine and I'm following the correct method. Because using the same test kit i checked the LFS water and it showed only very little amount. Meaning for nitrate it turned into very light purple. not dark purple as my tank.

What do you have as far as a mechanical filter?

Hi Friends,

So today I received my Royal Nature test kits. I'm really worried about my Phosphate and Nitrate levels.

KH/Alk is 8-9 so it's ok.
Ammonia is 0 so it;s safe there
Nitrite is 0 also

But Phosphate and Nitrate is way too high around 100. I have to admit that i've been feeding quite a lot - i will cut down that for sure.

I just wanted to know if Phosphate and Nitrate got any connection. It's very weird that all other params ok but only Phosphate and Nitrate very high level. I saw some red sea Phosphate and Nitrate reducing liquid kinda thing. Is it recommended? I will do a weekly water change. Other than that do you know any connection in between these 2? #reefsquad please advice

Thanks

The Red Sea liquid you are talking about is Methanol. It is similar to Vodka dosing to reduce Nitrates and Phosphates. I have used it and it worked well. With that said, follow the directions to the T so that you do not over dose. With one 30% water change and using this product, I went from 40ppm Nitrates and .1 Phosphates to 2 ppm Nitrates and .03 phosphates in two weeks.

I will also added an algae scrubber with helped a lot also.

I highly recommend an algae scrubber if you are not able to get your Nitrates under control. If you want a recommendation on one, let me know.

Also, feed less. That is the most financially responsible thing you can do right now. That and water changes.
