hit a deer on my motorcycle

I work in insurance. If there is no damage, I wouldn't make a claim. Your rates will go up, and you don't want that. I'd clean off the bike and make sure there is no damage. You can have it checked out by the bike shop for a small fee. Cheaper then paying for it the next 3 years.

I have hit 4 deer since I have had insurance with state farm and it has NEVER gone up. I use comprehensive instead of using reg insurance on it. With a motorcycle if there is a cracked fram because of it it could cost the insurance company more because of other costs should that thing fail. If it was on my van i wouldnt worry about it but because I am on two wheels sorry my life is more important to me than a few extra dollars.

bad news ...I have had 2 friends not so lucky. One hit a dear the other a wild boar.Bothe spent several weeks in the hospital.

That's why I said to have the bike shop check it. If there is no issue I wouldn't worry about it. I didn't say not to worry about your safety. Safety is exceptionally important. You can make a claim, and state farm probably won't raise your rates due to a not at fault accident. Some companies do. You are only driving with physical damage on your bike?

lol no no I claim the deer on the comp part. I have full coverage on the bike :D. at $280/yr I cant afford not to have full coverage. as for having a shop look at it I dont consider $300 a "little" fee.

Oh, I was about to say:neutral:. Insurance is a fickle business. Been doing it for over 10 years now, and it just keeps changing. I work on motorcycle, RV, boat insurance now, and it's a different animal. I do the programming part, and the guts of insurance is a complex mathematical formula for everything. Good luck on the claim, glad you're ok, and I hope there is nothing wrong with your bike .

yeah I got off the phone with the motorcycle shop and they said $300 to look at it. I was like I would rather pay my $0 deductable lol.

You jumped a deer on your bike???? That's CRAZY!! It's a good thing your not hurt. Have you ever considered motorcross?
I hope you get it checked out and back on the road soon.

lol well I didnt jump it persay but I did use it as a ramp to get some hang time :xd:. I would love to try a 250lb bike vrs my 450lb bike but wife thinks me riding this is bad enough and wont let me try a dirt bike. :D. Seriously in the MSF course they teach you to hit the gas and "jump" up out of the seat and on the handle bars to help lift you over the object. I dont think I made 2 feet prob closer to a foot-foot and a half but still it sucked because it was the beginning of a curve so not only did I have to straighten the bike out I had to do what I just mentioned above about the jumping part.

Crap, What are the odds of that. I am sure you insurance is going to think something is suspect if you've knocked down 4 deer.

4 deer over 13 yearsI HIGHLY doubt they will think something is suspect. In reality only 3 of them were turned in for coverage cause the first one cost me $35 to fix myself since I had PL/PD and I went to a junk yard to get used parts lol. The last 3 deer I have always had full coverage on vehicles since my first car.

*edit

I should say that 2 of those 3 were from me. I hit one with my van and the second one I just ran over lol. The 3rd one would be my wife hit with the van. Guess which one caused the most damage??? So far the one my wife hit cause she swerved. When I hit you couldnt tell I even hit a deer. I just hope they dont total my bike because of some small imperfection the frame they find.

That should be a comp claim for a deer hit and your ins should not go up. Ask your agent to be sure but normally comp claims do not effect your $$. May be different for bikes???

it doesnt go up for comp claim. Either way forgot about this thread. I took it in and they are going to try and get the saddle bags replaced (they got ripped on the bottom). Also the handle bars are slightly bent. thats what they noticed right away. Other than that I was told Tues they should know if there is more damage. Wife was following me in the van and she said that whenever I went around a corner shoud could see the bike tires "fluttering".

A friend of mine hit a deer on his bike a year ago.

coma for 2 months. In-patient for 4. Now has a bunch of metal in his head he didnt used to have, and will never walk nor talk the same again :(

Well I am :D. I called them and the front rim is bent and the seat is broken (must of happened when I landed) and the plastic gaurding is cracked. They said everything else seems to be ok other than what I posted above.

I have had a few people I rode with that are now unable to walk or suffered serious injury.....I retired the bike while I was still upright. Only miss it on summer nights and nice fall days. To many bad drivers to worry about, as well as nature......
