Yes Bean, probably. As I posted already there are so many things that go on in this hobby that go without notice, the example I used was those who’s fish die from preventable disease, no one even questions it. It’s not something I worry about, it was just a good example in my mind at the time of writing. Now we have a video showing a tank overstocked with fish and everyone has a fit over it. That makes no sense to me. If we are to hold TSA accountable for their actions, we should hold everyone accountable for their actions. But we don’t, it’s selective and that’s hypocritical. My point being if we cared that much about the well being of fish, let’s just not keep them at all, it’s obviously sarcastic. Sure my post has likely offended a good number of people, but it is what it is. I wouldn’t have started a thread about it I really dont care that much, but I’m not everyone else and I’m aware of that. For the sake of saying it, yes Bean it was a sarcastic remark and may have been out of place, thanks for pointing that out.
I think that just about everything can be boiled down to selective hypocrisy in one form or another. Dog piles certainly often expose some level of it. At the same time, we can’t deny there are lines or norms and cases where those are crossed in a very visible manner.

I don’t think your post was offense and anybody who does may need to check their sensitivity settings. I get it, but I also get why people felt the need to say something.

This won't change my opinion on TSA. Ive been to the store many times and they care for their animals very well and the tanks are top notch. Its not even their tank, the pearl clutching and the drama in this thread is astounding.

A win for the hobby? Keeping fish in a glass box for your pleasure you mean? The “right” thing to do if anyone was truly concerned about the welfare of fish, is the call for an outright ban on the hobby altogether. TSA is a huge player that is in existence to support our hobby, some of you want to boycott them. That is backwards logic any way you look at it.

I think the responses here were a bit harsh. The fact that TSA took the video offline demonstrates perhaps they do care about how the community sees them. Someone made poor call with that video, maybe video production was slow that week and just needed something to post. Lighten up about it, they’ve done what ya’ll wanted. Everyone should spend $100 with them today as a thank you.

And I wasn’t singling you out afboundguy, I know you had good intentions.
No worries. I, and many others were just upset that the video was spun as an amazing tank setup with over the top visible issues. I have always respected and thought TSA was one of the better companies that does care about the hobby as a whole and put that care before profits and they have a very profitable company because they are trusted in the hobby.
I've not watched the video but I get what the content is.
I think the problem many have here is TSA is thought of as a company trying to help the hobby and promote positive treatment of marine life as well as being an awesome vendor. I think many of us consider them one of the more reputable vendors in the hobby.
As mentioned earlier social media is entertainment not education. Unfortunately many of a different generation than myself use it as education. I think people are disappointed because they feel let down by TSA. They feel they are promoting something that new people will see as perfectly fine then some will end up here asking for assistance to figure our what want wrong. Those here that care are always trying to help but it keeps getting more difficult with the influx of people that are struggling because they saw a video or other SM post and thought it was the correct way to do thing and failed to realize what they're watching isn't actually real life to begin with. Its their fault but others get to deal with the fallout because they care for the life being harmed in the process. The fact that they've made the video private shows they are listening and probably discussing how to proceed.
Just old guy ramblings
Happy Reefing
Yep! I do appreciate that @TopShelfAquatics took down the video and shows me that they listen to all our concerns and to me it validates that they do care about the hobby which is one of the reasons I respect their company.

Nobody is perfect and everyone makes mistakes and to me them taking down the video is the right thing and I appreciate them more for doing the right thing and hope the mistake isn't repeated! Based on their past history I am willing to continue doing business with them and enjoying their YouTube videos!

I wouldnt boycott tsa over this. Thats silly. I like their vixeos and blaine is pretty good. This guy probably spent 4000k in stuff from tsa so they felt obligated or something. They are a business after all.

I don't disagree.

I see the issue as somewhat complex.

1 - The platform demands this nonsense, it is what drives traffic; and traffic drives credibility that drives sales. It is all slop.

2 - We are only a part of their demographic. Those who soak up the slop are their customers too, and maybe even a larger share of them. We don't know. We observe reefing through or own bubble and apply it to what we see.

3 - Given the above, we would hope that TSA and their reputation as caring about their livestock and the hobby would have red flagged this video before they ever made it, let alone publishing it. That doesn't always happen and sometimes, just as we see from our bubble, they see from theirs.

Lastly, I am not a fan of moral dogpiles because as somebody noted above, hypocrisy is easy step into even if the intention is well meaning.

The hope here is that lessons are learned all around and the vendor understands our community better, maybe the client sees the extreme more clearly, and maybe those on the dogpile recognize the slippery slope and ease up, and give the vendor a chance to demonstrate they got the message.

Since TSA took down the video here is a new one from ReefaP NY…
While the water does look like it could use a better filtration setup I don think this is that bad. Realistically a vendor cant have a full 6ft tank for every tang, especially at a show. Most the fish will be in there for a few days at most not to mention fish getting removed from being purchased.

Possibly yes, however, purple tangs with HLLE, Moorish will die soon, tilefish are doomed, etc, etc…I understand this is similar looking to a wholesale facility but this is extremely poor execution and judgment by vendor.

It’s one thing being on house arrest with a home that is 2500-3000 SQFT vs a 10x10 cell and bubba next to you! This dudes tank is the bubba tank. Why is hard to understand that yes there is no equation of tank size vs the ocean there is still a way to give these fish some space if you’re going to put them in a glass cage. Again even a 2000-3000 SqFt home is nothing compared to the good ol out doors. I hunt and fish, and can’t stay away from being outside enough. But if the only choice is a bubba cell vs an average home I have to spend time closed in…. Give me the home.
The fish don’t get a choice though.

(I'm just shocked to be learning that the show "Real Fishwives of Orlando" is scripted ‼️ )

It’s a shame how easy it is to try and cancel a person or a company these days over things that really don’t warrant it.

Unfortunately, I didnt get a chance to see the tank because of this thread that forced TSA to pull the video.

Wouldn’t it have been more constructive to start a conversation on that thread about the pitfalls of overstocking your tank instead of crapping on TSA for posting their content about a good looking tank.

The owner of the tank may have no idea what fish he should stock for his size tank and how many. it seems like he had the money to buy nice fish and he bought what he liked.

As far as I can see, nobody has learned anything by TSA taking the video down. Fact is, the guy still has an overstocked tank, and he may not realize it.

It 'was' a teachable-moment, I will grant you that. 😬

They likely ordered the fish for delivery to the venue. There is not much you can do. The truck shows up and the vendors grab their boxes and float and drop.

You guys would love Asian style tanks

So you are inferring that every system they chronicle and film represents their business model? Shirley Not. 🙂
Well they put it on their channel didn’t they? So yes most companies ask themselves is this the kind of thing we want to put our name behind. Btw I’m serious and don’t call me a Shirley.

The fish don’t get a choice though.

talkin about feeling here, as in what is the minimum that a fish will thrive in. Let’s be real there is enough actual experience between all on this forum to say this dude is doing it wrong 100%! The experience is we know tangs need more space than that 45 gallon cube if it’s even 45. If you’re going to put them in such a small glass cage, you will see health issues!

Here is how some know what size some of these fish do good in, a 60 gallon tank with three
/four tangs that get to 7-9 inches and healthy even with good parameter tells you stress. Put the same fish in a 150 and issues are gone. Have seen it. Saved a few tangs from smaller systems and ended up doing real good in a larger system. So it’s info like this that writes a story that we all gather and then come together as a collective that hey maybe, just maybe some fish will need a larger tank than others.

Why is it so hard for some to understand is beyond me!

PS don’t put an emperor angle in a 60 gal system. Will not end well. 😎😆
