Ammonia will show higher than what it really is when dosing copper but nitrates and phosphate you can still test and get correct results

There is no real need to test for anything but ammonia in a QT. Copper can cause false reading in the API and other liquid test kits. It's best to use an ammonia alert badge by seachem. It will give you real time ammonia readings without being effected by the copper. Do a good size water change if you think the ammonia is creeping up and make sure to redoes the copper to the new water before adding it back to the tank.

I've heard that it works well with cupramine, what about other copper based meds?
