How do you encourage other reefers?

Whether it's "beautiful tank," "keep up the good work" or "looking great" how do you encourage other reefers?

Is there more that us reefers can do to encourage others besides words?

Keeping it simple! A lot of questions, a lot of suggestions and tons of information. Sometimes it helps to stick to the basics. I have seen so many reefers who want to break down their tanks because of a certain “pest” or because of water parameters not being stable. They see a fish with signs of ich and think all their livestock will be dead next morning. This happens frequently when people tend to show off their knowledge instead of giving practical and realistic advice. So I would go for the phrase “Don’t panic,…”(and giving some easy advice) being the best motivation.

I try to encourage others by showing them what’s possible. I share my reefing journey every step of the way, and encourage others not to be discouraged when setbacks occur. We are all in this together, and with enough positivity and persistence, we can achieve our goals!

I don't know if it's helpful, but I try to give out a lot of "likes" and the other emojis, I kind of wish we had a few more of them.

For me, it's engaging with their posts and leaving reactions. Seeing feedback that people are paying attention to your threads about your tank goes a far way!

For non R2R hobbyists, I ask questions and check in on their tank. Remembering things they told you about and following up later shows you're interested in what they're doing.

personally I am doing a cheap as I can Tank . Using used equipment DYI stand , and other projects to show that it is doable. I am going to leave room to add other equipment later but not really necessary

I try to relate to shared frustrations by admitting that I have been there too. That way they don't feel like they are the only one.

I also share the good, the bad and the ugly about my own tank in my tank thread. After all, its a reef journey and sometimes we learn things the hard way! But one can bounce back from anything if they want to.

I like to read what is asked and take a moment to put my self in their shoes. But with my experience help them figure out their situations with what they have or recommend a good option. It’s not always about the latest and greatest, sometimes it’s about simplicity and what works. Helping others is my passion in life and Reef2Reef is an amazing community to help others. I agree on this too. Try and keep things simple. I try to give advice in small, easy to 'digest' pieces and not answer all the questions at once. If need be, I will make multiple posts on the thread so they have time to process.

Perfect sir. I see it too often when a question is asked and a snide, condescending answer is given. I get that we see the same questions asked over and over, but we are the stewards tending to the flock. Every member here deserves a kind, encouraging, uplifting response or at least point them in the right direction.
