I am another one that wanted to keep my canopy, but there was not room inside for the fixture. Cut out a hole in the canopy and the fixture sits, almost unnoticeable, on the top of the canopy.

The mounts supplied with my Photon V2 wouldn't work having a corner tank. I didn't want to hang them either. So, I modified some of the hardware that came with it and built some legs that would work with the modified hardware. Took a little machine work, but I'm happy with the results. Legs are 1 inch acrylic square rod with some 3/8 acrylic sheet to give some support front to back. Lights are 8 inches above the water line.

I have 4 tanks. Three have mounting brackets while My 360g has them mounted in canopy ( 1- 72" T5, three Radions, two Kessil AP 700 and two 72" Reefbrite XHO.) I keep them all at 35% and soft intensity

Ceiling mounted using Chain Link and Hooks ( DIY T5 Fixture 3 Separate Sections).
Links allow for height adjustment (using a link Clip), for Dual or One sided Lift (for Tank Access).

I made a mount that sits in my false ceiling which allows me to move the fixture up and down depending on how high I want the light off of the water. Also will make maintenance easier.

Took some videos:

So cool.. love the ingenuity in some of the DIY projects I have seen here on r2r!

@Crabs Mcjones

I am so happy someone finally got some attention on this subject following DBL's poll...

I will share here once I am done with my DIY canopy... but here is my thread for the build.

So nobody actually feel safe to mount it right onto the glass of the tank?
I tried once many years ago and the glass shattered from the heat of light and cooler splashing water hitting it

Mine is the best (for me) and at the same time the worst ever in terms of aesthetics. Eye hooks, hooks, 2x4s dangling from wire shelves. Being in wall helps.

I weld up all my own mounts they usually mount to the back of the stand and fully hight adjustable. The price they won’t for mounts from the companies is outrageous
