Here you go :-

I purchased it from here

https://m.ebay.com/itm/SERA-SIPORAX-Pond-25mm-Filter-Media-for-Aquarium-and-Live-Coral-/222657544839?var=&hash=item33d76c8287:m:mIhZkfHML-qfLPjdUy8lnOA&_trkparms=pageci%3A0c5d6808-b9d5-11e7-8f91-74dbd18046c5%7Cparentrq%3A55aeb74915f0a86642af4369fffeeee1%7Ciid%3A1

Here's my crappy pic as my sump light conked out . I wish I had more place but my bubble King takes away all space .

I just got some siporex used from a fellow reefer he had it up and running in his tank I just step it up on my tank should I seed with mb7 or any other bacteria just in case the bacteria died on the transfer. Nitrates are 100 with salifert test kit

You can definitely seed them with MB7 or other type of bacterial source but it will take some time to bring such high NO3 down.

I don't have much room left in my sump, so I plan to repurpose an otherwise unused GEO Kalk reactor. Installed a couple of 1/2" bulkheads on top and ran a 1/2" pipe to the bottom of the reactor. I managed to get about 6 liters worth of the 25mm size in there. Forgoing the uniform stack though. Anyway, plan on seeing how this works.

How often do you guys clean off your siporax, or do you not worry about that?

If you are using siporax in order to bring down the NO3 level - you must use them in anaerobic conditions (without oxygen). I use them in this way and I got a rather huge backslash - my Si levels rise to very high levels. Before I took them out - the level was 17 000 mikrograms/litre (17 ppm) (Triton test). Friends of mine has the same experiences when they use Siporax in anaerobic conditions.

I am on the fence about ordering this product for my tank ,,, I was all set to place the order when I found this post ,, now I am not so sure :( others in the post have mentioned that 10 % of these have to be replaced monthly ,,, I am not keen on having to throw away 10% of these monthly and replace with new siporax ,,, am I reading this wrong,, do they have to be replaced? I am not looking to increase my monthly expense on my tank,,, unless its to buy new corals :)

That has been exactly my experience from Triton report . Silicates were high although no negative impact at all .
I habe started running small amounts of GFO like rowa in hopes of bringing it down .

Abhishek

We use some Siporax in an old Zeovit filter in a propagation tank. Doesn't really do that much for the water since the tank is connected to a cirka 12000L coral system, but I do like to shake the filter a couple of times a day. The corals seems to like whatever comes out after a shake (and the skimmer :)).

About using Siporax in anaerobic conditions, we have the same experience as Lasse. We tested them in a slow flow filter and got higher and higher Si readings on our ICP tests.

Yea - the AL99 will take them down but it also take down my PO4 to much. After 1 year and 9 months I decided to take them out - but they did a great job with the NO3 levels. At 17 ppm - I got silicia on my aquarium windows!

I also have high silicia in my system but it does not seem to harm anything.

I have decently high PO4 numbers too, do you think dosing PhosphateRx would help not only bring down my PO4 number but also possibly my silicia?

I doubt lanthanum chloride will bind to silicates but I shall allow someone more knowledgeable to confirm.

I clean it about once in 3 months. Just take it out in the bucket and dip in fresh RODI water 2-3 times and thats all.

If you want to remove both then GFO is your option to go not lanthanum chloride.

Would this not be detrimental to the bacteria? I would rinse in tank water myself
Nope, two dips in freshwater will not kill any bacteria. Still if they do they can grow back up much faster than we can imagine. Dont underestimate the power of bacteria....lol. Actually they are always dying and regenerating in your system so dont worry much. My cleaning is due this weekend so I will show you how that water looks like after 2 dips. Also they grow a lot of sponge in them.
