How effective/safe is dino x?

your xenia will be dead within another week. the dino x will kill it. im telling you the company lies. im only trying to help. and when that guy said dont fiddle, while i cant speak for him, i think he meant to say dont fiddle with harsh chemicals. because things like bacteria or phyto is all natural and wil only help not hurt. hell, to this day, i still dose those two, and i dont even have dino anymore. in case you didnt know, dino X is methylethlamine, a chemicall used by agriculturists to kill plants. its toxic to corals. the company is lying. are there some people out there who used it and didnt have their corals die, sure im sure theres a few. but the majority of people who complain about losing corals, did not all overdose. there are hundreds of people who swear by that wand i linked, i would do that over the dino X. but you do what you feel is best.

I calculated my water to the exact amount and use a pipet, and a scale to weigh the exact amount I’m dosing. Have had nothing but wonderful amazing results!

i mentioned at the start, there are a few people who have had luck, maybe you will be in that group. but keep in mind, the corals i had that died didnt die until week 4. i had nothing but good results the first few weeks. then my xenia died, then my stony corals died. my LPS corals survived. some people just lose one coral, others all of their corals. then some lucky few come out the other side completely unscathed. your one single experience doesnt equal that experience for everyone.
if i took some heroin, it might not you but it might kill me. but to say, well i didnt die, so its safe. its a stretch.

My corals have actually grown larger than ever before! My nitrates are Stable for the first time since starting the reef.

I have had 0 ill effects, only benefits! I am truly grateful for this product and I’m even more grateful I didn’t heed the advice of so many who said don’t use it. Had I listened, I would I have given up on the reef.

For me, this was a god send. I’m doing water changes every two weeks, calcium and magnesium are more stable than ever and corals are thriving like I’ve never had before.

So for me, it was a a fix all! My LPS are totally fine and happier than ever before too.

Only coral that showed any actual sign of stress was pulsing Xenia, by the end it wasn’t pulsing as much. Some of the “finger” I call them they pulse melted off, however they have totally regrown and are better than ever

Thank you so much for sharing your experience. You convinced me to use it on my old tank which still contains corals I have under quarantine and keeps getting bad dino outbreaks. I stopped with metronidazole because of how expensive it is and they were growing faster than the UV alone could eliminate them.

Funnily enough, the green hair algae in that tank is absolutely thriving after about three weeks of Dino X, but I don't see any more dinoflagellates. I am also seeing bryopsis fronds on the filter again, probably because they aren't getting smothered by dinoflagellates. Codium macroalgae is healthy and dark green still. I'm not sure if it would kill other types of macro algae but it seems to be a much narrower spectrum algaecide than Algaefix is. The astrea snails seem slightly annoyed but are alive and eating. Pipe organ coral and palythoa seem to be doing okay.

I'm in practically the same situation, except I'm battling LCA dino since like 5 months, by doing allllll advices people giving to me on FB group (mack dino) so silicate dosing (upped to 3000 mg by my last ICP test xD) dosing all kind of bacteria, live phyto, copepods, adjusted my trace elements one by one based on ICP test etcetc.. a had get a clean tank for like one week where the dino was completely disappeared then guess who's back ? LCA again ...... .... I'm so tired of this curse. So im about to use dino x...
So far, how your tank is doing? Still no sign of dino ? Have you continue to dose bacteria or phyto ?

dude its a crap shoot. half the people have good results other half not so much. my lps were fine. but it killed all my sps. but it did work. why not just get the UV wand? try that first and then use dino X as a last resort? people have had great reviews of that UV wand. just hold it over the rocks for like like 15 seconds then move it a few inches and repeat that every day for a few days and you will see like a 80% reduction. and for sand, get a diamond goby. or get like 5 conch snails. no more dino on the sand.

Yes I have the UV wand, from 3D reefing (Moe kayed) but it's really too big for a 20gal cube tank.. and my reef is full of corals so I can't really use it sadly ..
My reef actually.. not so bad compared oh what it was looking 2 months ago, but what's make me bad it's I was really think I has win the battle a month ago, all my was completely white, all dino completely disappeared then come back..
I already have 1 conch, really enough for my tank size.. and no diamond goby they messing the tank so much and my bioliad is already pretty much full with 5 fishes in a 20gal.

For now I have 3 dose in, and all is fully open and good. All my corals are really healthy so I hope it will help for them to not be to much impacted by the treatment. I dose 3,4ml at night, and I continue all my other dosing (trace élément as needed, different strains of good bacteria in interval, live phyto, and all for reef).
For now I see a little bit improvement, my sand began to have some clear patches and I don't have to clean my glass every day, so I will keep monitoring my tank closely and hope for the best !!

It that “food” which the good guy algae’s and bacteria’s grow their populations on and at one point, they exceed (and outcompete for space) the bad guys and Dino’s disappear within around 7 days from that point. It’s the decline will be very noticeable.

You can speed that process by ensuring the main parameters salinity, Alk, nitrate and phosphate are rock solid.
