How fast did your Tang grow?

I want to get a small baby purple Tang and I'm curious how fast they grow.
My yellow went from under an inch to 3ish in a couple months

I had a thread a while ago on tang growth. Most of mine end up about half of their full advertised wild size. Fast growth when small/young but tapering off. My yellow is 5”and has not grown appreciably in a couple of years. Likewise for my purple and gem. Desjardini has slowed at about 8”. Chevron grew fast to about 7” over a couple of years but now holding. Even my brevirostris has not grown much beyond 10” (11” if you include the schnoz). I feed my tank a LOT, and all fish appear healthy with some of the tangs approaching 10 years old. Tank is a 450. Buddy of mine had a vlamingi that went from about 3”to almost 14” in less than three years. In a 90 gallon no less. Was an absolute beast .... and an eating machine.
Do you have any experience on the growth rate of a sohal tang? I’m setting up a 205 gallon tank right now and the sohal tang is a favourite of mine. I’m hoping to convince my wife to go up to a minimum 500 gallon in roughly 5 years if all goes well with this tank. I don’t want to jeopardize is health or make him extremely aggressive with the other tangs that I want to get as well though. Any thoughts or recommendations would be appreciated

Oh wow!!! He’s out grow my tank within a year. I don’t want that. I would like to keep all my fish through their whole lives. I’ll have to maybe get him, if I hopefully get the green light to get the bigger tank. I bought a lot of the equipment for the 205 gallon tank, that would easily work on the bigger tank. So that should help to convince my wife that it won’t be too expensive to go bigger down the road

They also get quite nasty especially towards other tangs

Oh ok. I definitely don’t one then. I don’t need the stress bringing on other health issues with the tangs and eventually other fish. Do you have any experience with the Achilles tang?

My convict grew from this poor <2" fish to 5" in <1.5 years. This is it at 2yrs. Plus a cool 2 tang pic.
Nice fish but quickly outgrew my 120.
I rehomed it to a 500.

At times I feel they grow so slow, and other times they seem to just jump in size. Water quality, food quality and how well they are fed all plays a role in it. Not two fish are the same. One PBT can grow fast, while another a bit slower.

I was hoping to get one from Elliot at marine collectors and then also have a strong UV sterilizer to also help. I’m aiming to have the tank as sterile as possible. A lot of the fish that I want will be captive bred in their own tanks before purchase, that will then go into a 55 gallon observation tank for a minimum of a few weeks and get my wild ones from Elliot, that will also go into that 55 gallon for observation. I’m hoping to get clean inverts as well. I realize that you can never be 100% however I’m trying to get all the great info and equipment that I need before adding the first fish. I’m also planning on letting the tank age extra long to get all the right bacteria and numbers. I keep hearing that going extra slow is the biggest secret to success, so I hope I can resist the temptation to go to fast, when I see a fish that o want and there’s only one or two left 🤣🤣🤣
