I am hanging a new light over my tank, and it sure how high off the tank to hang it? My last light sat on its own stand off of the top.

Gonna need some more info to help. What type of light is it? What is your tank dimensions? What type of coral is your tank stocked with?

It is a Galaxy pro-
30 Gallon Nano.
I have a few different types of coral and put them in the tank either low or high depending on their light requirements.
Here is a pic....

Do you keep any sps? I can't tell but being a tall tank I would try 12 in. at first starting low on the intensity and gradually increasing it to desired level.

I agree. Go slow with the amount of lighting until the corals give you a sense of whether they need more or less light. Lower is more intense, higher is better spread so a lot depends on tank size and type of light. From your picture it looks like you have a good starting point.
