Did i make a bad decision buying the honda?

It's never a bad decision to buy a honda.

I have had my one Honda generator for almost 20 years . The only thing I have done to it was change the oil and spark plug and thrum the petcock off and run all the gas out of the carb when storing it . You can not go wrong with a Honda .

Depends on your power load and income. Running a 5000 watt generator for multiple days can get expensive on gas, and propane cuts into your maximum power generated. I got a 4400 watt that should be enough to run my tank, work station, furnace or window A/C and refrigerator, if need be.

Never store it in the box and then try to use it right away. If you break it in right, the add Mobil 1 oil and some True Fuel for storage you should be good to go.

My power lines are under ground in my neighborhood, but not too far down the road they do come out of the ground and are the normal transmission lines that are subject to extreme weather, branches/trees, and the occasional accident that takes out the power poles.

Not at all. Plenty of power, very quiet and very efficient. It has a fuel pump, so can draw fuel from external fuel cells. It is easy to start and has a very good governor system. Honda Generators are best-in-class.

If you are running extension cords through your window, get Pool Noodle and cut a small hole in it so the cord can run through it, and this will aide in not severing the cord by accident.

I use a 10,000 watt generator. Runs my hole house and even used it for 10 days striate a few years back. You don't need one until you need one then they are all sold out.

i have a new honda 2200. Electrician came today to install a plug on my furnace for my genny to power the heat if needed. He said it will also give me enough power to run my 400 watt heaters and return pump with some to spare.

I do not trust a half inch of ice we are projected to get.

I can attest to how good the ryobi generators are. In the big ice storm of 2021 (I think it was ‘21 anyway) we lost power for 5 days. I ran my 6500 watt ryobi generator nonstop the entire time. I didn’t even turn it off to refuel (I know how dumb that was and wouldn’t do it again). Prior to that it ran for 3 days when Hurricane Harvey hit us. Aside from those two instances, it’s been in storage for the entire time I’ve owned it.

After both uses I drained the fuel, changed the spark plug, and changed the oil. I know I should do so more often, but I only test run it about once a year, at best. I do drain the fuel afterward. I fired it up yesterday to test it before the storm hit.. it fired right up on the second pull and ran great for the 30 minutes that I left in on for. If even only somewhat well maintained these things are pretty solid.

I forgot to state that during the 2021 outage I ended up basically powering my entire house aside from hvac (but it ran 3 strategically placed space heaters) from this generator and it never even blinked.

I added an attachment on mine, so it runs on gasoline and house gas.
In my last home I ran a gas line outside that I could use on my bar be cue and generator.

I ran it forever during hurricane Sandy

If you can splurge a bit get the Honda. It's one of the quietest generators out there, plus if it's taken care of it will last a very long time.

I have a Honda EU3000is model, it’s 13 years old and looks and runs like it’s brand new. It’s dead quiet, always starts, and will last almost a day on a tank of gas with the eco throttle.

Only downside it its heavy, so I have a rolling cart I put it on.

We here in SoCal have never seen snow unless we go to the mountains for skiing. Regardless, I have a DIY 10kW battery system (too lazy to hook up solar) that can run the whole fish room for 2-3 days without heaters though. The Honda 2000i generator and extra 5gal of gas can be used for other parts of the house. One of these days, I should just buy a system that can do NG and power the whole house.

I installed that plug on my furnace also. I can run it from my generator or from my car battery jumper if I am too lazy to start my generator.

No you did not. I have 2, best/most reliable inverter generator out there.

One thing to remember. If you're going to store it for a long time, fill it with non-ethanol gasoline only.

I learned this the hard way with the first generator I had.
Plus another one of my early mistakes with a gas powered motor was to just turn it off and put it in storage for months at a time.
You need to shut off the gas under the tank and let the motor burn the gas in the gas lines and carburetor until it dies.

I forgot to mention that, YES ABSOLUTELY!

I have a Champion Inverter and I figured out where the gas shut off was and that I have a screw to empty the fuel from the carb. so with these two things you can keep your power dry so to speak.
I was trying to turn off the gas with vent cap on the fuel cap, wrong.
