Thanks for the suggestions, I may have to do another survey in the future! I agree that looking at dollars per gallon or per area might be a better measure for what to expect to spend given a tank size. Maybe if enough people post their tanks sizes here I could go through and figure that out at least for cost per gallons. Maybe on a rainy day
Most are at growth program and white at 32%, Blue at 95%, red at 8% and green at 6%Out of interest, what are you running your orphek at? Mine are on 11 hours a day and ramp to a peak of 80% on blue and greens and I think 40 and 60ish on white and red channels.
Yes- started with three and knew these were worth the cost and all the hypeYikes indeeed! I look forward to the day I can drop that kind of money on a fish tank! Are you happy with the purchase? Did the performance justify the cost?
Nice tank! Out of interest what kind of lights are you using for the plants behind the tank?2 Kessil 360x / and 36” T5 aquatic life combo.. over $1300
Thanks! It’s actually a UFO grow star light that I used to use for my refugiumNice tank! Out of interest what kind of lights are you using for the plants behind the tank?
These just came in, waiting for the Wi-Fi controllersI was going through some of the older threads I have saved and stumbled across this older survey from 2013-2014 which is on the amount of money people spent on their aquarium lights per unit.

I thought it would be fun to try and replicate the survey today to see if any of the numbers have changed, considering the many advances in LED technology in the last 10 years. I read through the first 4-5 pages of responses in this thread and was amazed at how many people were building diy kits from RapidLED and other sources. I know that around that time I was doing the same thing, but it seems like now less people are doing diy lights than they were previously.
Anyways feel free to take this survey and maybe comment on what lights you have and what size of tank you've got or any other information you think is relevant to the issue.
These are some awesome looking lights. Do you just tell them what color and how many LEDs you want and they design the rest? How does price compare to some of the big name brands?
I think that is my reaction to the whole hobby“More than I ever imagined I would” isn’t one of the survey choices
Hi yes you give them a layout, if you dont wNt the factory one, which i didnt. I wanted more blues no redThese are some awesome looking lights. Do you just tell them what color and how many LEDs you want and they design the rest? How does price compare to some of the big name brands?
Im setting up a 3 display 1200gal system. 1 is 8ftx3ftx2ft tall. 1 is 8ftx30inchx2ft tall. Some good ideas for lighting here. My current tank is running two Kessils a360x packages that included the 90degree mounts. They were a little more than $1300. Then I added the 3ft aquatic life hybrid which was $300. So currently $1600. Thats after I stopped using a brand new 6x36 ATI. Lots of money wasted in lighting.
