How striking is a marine fish?

Juvenile Emperor Angel fish in the 80s attracted me to salt. African Cichlids attracted me to FW early 70s.
I wish you could get a juvenile emperor and it would stay that color, haha

I had a potters angelfish, absolutely loved this little guy

I really want one if these. They are absolutely stunning. To bad we can't get them anymore, or so I have been told.

I can't explain why, but I find these guys pretty and something i would love yo ha e in my tank. But I read they get big. Harlequin Sweetlips.

My LFS has these right now. Since I'm moving to a bigger tank this weekend, I went in last weekend to find out what would be good additions to slip in before my current fish re-settle. Asked about these! Sadly, they will be too big for my new tank. Beautiful fish though!

I have seen them to. My tank is 115g and I would love one but the research I did also said to small of a tank as well

Just remembered! What got me into SW was a YT Damsel. First fish I ever got. Was the first in my 1992 tank and the first in my 2008 tank. It'll be the first in my 2025 tank.

I remember my first encounter.

As a kid with a ten-gallon tank, my father took me to the aquarium store sometimes, where I could drool over the red swordtails, black mollies, and the incredible, impossible blue of neon tetras. Together, we visited a shop called the Norwalk Aquarium.

The fish on display were unbelievable to my young eyes. As white as metallic milk, with velvety black stripes that made a herd of zebras look muddy - or the reverse; an inky black one could get lost in, with just a few spots of pure snow white - or the reverse again, soft white with elegant movements and impossibly evenly placed, perfectly round _black_ spots.

And the _blues!_ Entire fish so blue that, to my eyes, they could have had Christmas-tree bulbs inside them!

I was hooked. From that moment, I knew that I wanted a tank that I could keep four-stripe, domino and blue damselfish in ... though I never did try a panther grouper.

On another visit to that same shop (in a time very different from today!), we saw two very adorable turtles - turtles whose limbs were more like undersized wings, or large flippers. First, last, and only time I've ever seen loggerhead hatchlings in an aquarium store.

Love that story, can tell that moment really made an impact in your life.

Scorpion fish initially fueled my dreams/nightmares. But there are too many unique and beautiful fish in the world to name.
